Manchin's Committee assignments

Why can’t Mr. Schumer, in the interest of the Democratic party platform and nation’s goals, let Mr. Manchin know that Committee assignments can be changed if Mr. Manchin doesn’t grasp the importance of solidarity among Democrats?
I Prefer the carrot to the stick but this is a critical moment in our history.
Any other perks available to Schumer?
Senator Manchin currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and also serves on the Senate Committee on Appropriations, the Senate Committee on Armed Services, and the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs - four critical committees. https://www.manchin.senate.gov/about

I would propose to create a federal agency specifically created to help WV workers...WVPW (WV public works) rebuild WV infrastructure, retrain workers, provide health care, improve internet/wifi etc....then have McConnell filibuster it...pit Manchin vs Mitch/Rs on WV specific stuff...I bet we would see change in demeanor...especially with R Gov Justice seemingly being for what alot of Biden is doing right now

Actions like that will just move him to being a republican then we lose majority.

Our time would be better off fighting the states that are squishing the vote and keeping good democrat senators from being elected like Wisconsin etc. I truly believe democrats would win in many states if election laws weren't so outrageous.

West Virginia is red as red can be, so we are lucky to have any type of a dem there.

be different. Under tRump the 2020 Care act gave a one time stimulus of up to $1200 per individual and $2400 per couple and $500 for each qualifying child and gave I think it was an extra $600/month in unemployment for the first 4 or 5 months. But the bill was top heavy and gave away a lot of money on the high end.

This go around they don't hold the presidency and enjoy a near stalemate in the Senate and had to do nothing but watch us beat ourselves up to strip provisions out of a bill that they didn't even have to vote on.

Would I love it to be more, better rargeted to those who need the help the most, sure would, but until we pick up a few more seats in the senate, this is pretty damn good.

If we had a few more Jim McGoverns in the House and Senate, the world would be a better place.

Love Congressman McGovern and miss Worcester, especially the Regatta Deli and the El Morocco.

People seem to know little about Manchin and his political situation in WV.

He would never win a Republican primary so there's exactly zero reason for him to switch. The talk of him doing so is simply off-base.

Also, he's not "very conservative". He's a moderate. He votes with Dems 75-80% of the time.

Schumer: Joe, I'm sorry...I gotta pull you from the Energy Committee.

Manchin: Over my dead body.

Schumer: I'm sorry, there has to be some accountability for your bullshit on the Covid Relief package.

Manchin: OK - you're right Chuck. Why don't you think about what you want from me while I walk down the hall to talk to Mitch. I'm sure he can count to 51.

Schumer: OK Joe - sorry I brought it up. Have a good day.

Maybe the WV only idea by caber19 is a bit over the top, but things embedded in bills like Covid 19, upcoming infrastructure plan and similar opportunities to sweeten the pot for WV and Manchin is a workable strategy. But need to have clear goals in mind-- we add XYZ for WV here, we get your vote on this, structured like this, next month. I agree that bashing Manchin and threatening Manchin with committee consequences is a strategy that will quickly backfire.

If Manchin switches parties, his career ends in 2024- he won’t even win the GOP primary.

Schumer won’t punish Manchin for his shenanigans around the COVID relief bill, but could around voting rights- note Manchin’s softening on the Sunday news shows today of his “NEVER!” Stance from earlier this week.

If Manchin and Sinema obstruct HR1 and it doesn’t pass this year, resulting in Dems losing their majorities, then absolutely, positively, Schumer should remove them from their committees, and make them members of the Steve King club.

We can't say that for every Democratic Senator.

He also voted with the Democrats on every amendment presented yesterday and also for the final bill.

It's time we recognize that not all Democrats fit into the same mold, particularly considering the states in which they live.

Better to work on increasing the majority so as to avoid being held hostage by his or any single vote.

He’s enjoying his moment of attention. Was interviewed by Tapper this AM. Personally, I just turned off CNN for that segment. The more Dems are perceived as disagreeing within themselves, the more attention he will get. We will see how much of a leader Chuck. I hope the 9 hour stall we witnessed over the covid relief package is not habit forming.
