JUST IN: Federal judge *denies* pretrial release of Q Shaman Jacob Chansley, rejecting the suggestion he was peaceful.
And Chansley's comments to 60 Minutes backfired: The judge says they prove he doesn't understand the gravity of his actions.

(22,171 posts)be the working mode that he and the other thugs are operating under. Their brand of protests is totally legal because their president called them, etc., thus, it's valid, they are there at the invitation of djt seemingly. Considering that people died, claiming that one is peaceful is a big lie.
Idiots. No peace, no rest until Justice is served for those that died.

(14,838 posts)Part of the ruling really scorches the defense attorney.....
"Such media appearances are undoubtably conducive to defense counsel's fame," Lamberth observed. "But they are not at all conducive to an argument that the only way defense counsel could privately communicate with his client is if defendant were temporarily released. Given defense counsel's decision to use what could have been a confidential videoconference on a media publicity stunt, that argument is so frivolous as to insult the Court's intelligence."

(19,204 posts)No way these dangerous insurectionists should be walking the streets. In so glad Judges (at least most) are driving home the seriousness of the charges against these criminals.

(50,562 posts)When they set up the teleconference that put Chansley on 60 Minutes Plus, he claimed it was for a "confidential attorney-client consultation." There are three levels of approval required for a federal detainee to appear in a media interview: the US Marshals Service, the judge overseeing the case, and the head of the facility the detainee is being held in must all approve of the interview before it happens. The lawyer didn't seek approval from anyone; rather, he set up the deal with CBS, bullshitted the jail into letting Chansley use the teleconferencing system, and let fly.
I suspect a federal contempt citation and disciplinary action is in this young man's future. He probably won't be facing disbarment, but he very well could spend a few weekends in a small gray room with a steel door.

(5,161 posts)I may have run a good client off because of a bit of an overreaction. (Not going to deny it, but hey... wealthy people sometimes forget that 90% of us have bills to pay.) Had to tell my beloved that I messed up right when times are really starting to get bad, been in pain all day thanks to the changing temps (even if they are better than 0F). But after reading this...
My day just improved a bit. Nice.

(2,143 posts)The interview was interesting. I hadn't seen it before. Sad for him that, at the time, he thought t***p would have his back, which of course didn't happen.

(51 posts)I know these cases aren't the same, but the wardrobe change in Jacob Chansley reminds me of how the Menendez Brothers went from Armani suits to tweed, pastel colored sweaters in order to soften their image.

(11,571 posts)When I opened the OP, the page had multiple copies of a "join the shamanic movement" ads, or words to that effect. I don't pay close attention to ads, no matter where I encounter them.
