Connie Meggs, one of 10 alleged Oath Keepers charged in the Capitol riots, has requested bond because she can't remove her wedding ring & thus cannot be transported to DC for arraignment
A magistrate denied a prior bond request on Feb 22 calling her "a danger to the community."

Meggs said that she was not allowed on a transport plane with the ring on but could not remove it and Marion County jail officials refused to cut it off. She is thus "languishing" in jail.
She also claims she was not engaged in acts of violence on Jan. 6.

Yesterday, prosecutors said that Meggs, who was in DC with her husband, Kelly, was among those who "forcibly entered the Capitol" and afterward met with Oath Keeper leader Stewart Rhodes outside the building.

(1,727 posts)It has to do with the possibility of the fingers swelling and circulation being cut off. My third wedding ring is of a removable design.

I remember one guy whose ring was embedded deep into his finger. I'd never seen anything like it, but my boss, the owner of the store was somehow able to get it off. The guy had a deep notch where the ring had been. I never leave any of my jewelry on.

(9,196 posts)He was a high school teacher, but he had grown up on a dairy farm, milking cows by hand. We had to size it up a loooooong way. I no longer remember the size, but I do remember putting the finished ring on a mandrel. It slid all the way down past the last sizing mark and hit the counter without ever touching the mandrel.

I had to remove mine for an MRI.
Did what we're saying & off it came.
Absent that, no way is my wedding ring coming off. The anniversary ring will come off if my finger is wet.

Light the blow torch and ask her: Shall I heat it with the torch and slide it off, or shall I just use the snippers and cut it off?
Problem solved.
