(26,748 posts)Almost two years until the seat could even hypothetically be filled by a republican. And no reason to think that it will even at that point (particularly if he leaves soon)
Its a commonplace avoidance technique for a scandal-plagued politician to blame the opposing party for his troubles... but the accusers and the senior politicians calling for his ouster are all democrats.
Finding some way to make this about Trump wont save Cuomo. Only a thorough investigation ending in his absolution can do that.

(7,522 posts)Good grief. The Lt. governor is a Democrat, former Democratic representative and longtime supporter of women's right. Why in the world would she pardon drumpf? How hard is it to do a simple search? Pretty hard I guess, judging by the number of these threads.

(68,599 posts)been Republican governors (Pataki). Now the Lt. Governor ran with Cuomo and lost her last House election and may not be able to win a statewide general. That is what the GOP are hoping for with this bullshit. So if Cuomo resigns I believe the governors seat could be at risk. If he must leave, let him do it after his term is up thus allowing a primary to take place.

New figures from the state Board of Elections show there are more voters who declined to enroll in any party than there are active Republicans."

(36,313 posts)In the 2020 election, Trump got less then 38% of the vote in the state of New York .
Given how unpopular Trump is in his former state, it's quite unlikely a R running for governor in 2022 who is seen as Trump friendly will have much of a chance.

If Cuomo is impeached and removed or resigns he would be replaced by the Lieutenant Governor, also a Democrat.
She will not be pardoning Trump.

understatement when I say that.
However, if this is a Reep hitjob like it was with Franken,
I do not want Cuomo to resign.
If it's all true, he needs to go.
Me.
(35,454 posts)but is very much appreciated for the way he led the state through the pandemic. It will be harder to remove him than some of his enemies think

(28,867 posts)If he really deserves it, OK...
but I hate double standards, one standard for Reeps
(none) and every standard for Dems no matter how
ludicrous (as in Franken's case).

(2,022 posts)He might use the Trump strategy of denying and refusing to react. Basically calling his detractors' bluff, believing that the Democratic legislature in NY will not have the votes to forcibly remove him. What does he have to lose? I think that deep down, he still has Presidential aspirations.
FBaggins
(26,748 posts)Trump didn't have Republican leaders in the House and Senate calling for him to resign
Steelrolled
(2,022 posts)The question is in the numbers in the legislature. Once the stream of victims has slowed down, the story might quiet down a little, and those calling for his resignation might be talked into doing what is "right for the party".
After many years of observing politics, I have accepted it for what it is.
