New York (CNN Business)Senior members of the US military took to Twitter late Wednesday and Thursday to call out Fox News host Tucker Carlson for a sexist segment in which he mocked women serving in the armed forces.
Carlson, who is effectively the face of Fox and hosts the top show on the right-wing channel, ridiculed President Joe Biden Tuesday for saying that the US military had created uniforms to fit women properly, created maternity flight suits for those who are pregnant, and updated requirements for hairstyles.
"So we've got new hairstyles and maternity flight suits," Carlson snarked. "Pregnant women are going to fight our wars. It's a mockery of the U.S. Military."
The comment from Carlson has prompted severe backlash from some of the most senior members of the US military who have openly called him out for harmful rhetoric.
Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby said the Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin shared the same "revulsion" that many military leaders have expressed about the sexist comments that Carlson made.

(2,009 posts)if he thinks pregnant women in uniform make a "mockery" of our military.
Sounds like to him the military represents some sort of symbol of masculinity rather than competence and duty.
Competence and duty. No wonder Tucker doesn't recognize it.

(5,528 posts)Is that it is so completely unnecessary for him to make any statement at all about it. It is under the radar and uncontroversial. He had to go out of his way to even bring it up.
That just shows how big of a dick he is that he felt the need to bring it up and how arrogant he is that he thinks it was a winning argument.

(7,218 posts)...what unit Carlson served in? I seem to have forgotten!
(He would have been age 22 during Op Desert Storm, so you can start there if you feel like searching.)

Thankfully there are women, pregnant or otherwise, that have courage and a sense of duty.

(1,910 posts)Its about enough of these fake tough guys. A female MMA fighter needs to challenge him, make it a huge deal, make it a ton of pressure where he is a total wimp for not accepting. All for charity.
And let her humiliate him on national TV. These big mouth total cowards get on my last nerve.

(4,399 posts)I guess he was too busy "winning the war of ideas at home" during the first Gulf War.
If anything is embarrassing to our country it's the amount of airtime given to misogynist chicken hawks who don't have a fraction of a fraction of the character of the people they are attacking.

(4,291 posts)After reading the post, I was going to ask whether or not Tuck and Run Qarlson had ever worn the uniform, held a (real) weapon, and stood a post, let alone engaged in real combat. Thank you for answering that question.
He wouldnt last a day of basic training. Almost like his idol Bitch McConnell (discharged for poor eyesight, or was it for shitty vision?). The list of GQP #ChickenHawks is WAY too long for this message. But I think the point is made.
If this entitled POS wasnt spewing his oral dysentery nightly on FQX, hed be trying to sell timeshares in Orlando, auto extended warranties, or reverse mortgages to vulnerable seniors.
And, Ill go out on a limb here: is it wise to give this attention-whore even more exposure than he deserves? Unless, of course, its purpose is to let his advertisers know how offensive he is to patriotic and loyal service members, veterans, their families and survivors; and that a boycott of their products/services is underway.

Do not try to Foxsplain to them anything about that topic, they literally write books about it.
Once the military embraced (excruciatingly slowly, more or less in order...) people of color, women, gay people, and transgender people, THOSE PEOPLE BECAME PART OF THEIR FORCES.
There may be half-assed, half-measures at lower levels in various branches of the armed services working against that integration-- in fact, there definitely are (yeah, looking at YOU, USAF "prayer breakfasters" - you know who you are)-- but the top-level military leadership has no time and no f*cks to give for that bullshit. They have a job to do, and a force to do it with, and they WILL optimize the effectiveness of that force.
It is no small task.
But along the way somewhere they realized with each increment- especially women- that damn, they have massively expanded the recruiting pool and the available quality for officer and enlisted corps by adding all those people. And in an all-volunteer force that's a Big Deal. So, yeah, the senior leadership is fully on board and they have the backs of their diverse servicemembers ON THE POLICY LEVEL.
It's still going to be a long, shitty struggle to get the racists and the misogynists and the homophobes and the rabid Evangelical Christian-only dickheads to stop subverting the process, and to keep more of them out of the forces. But the military is above all pragmatic. They will keep at it, given the support of their civilian CinC and the civilian elected officials charged with upholding the Constitution of the United States to which they gave their oaths.
appreciatively,
Bright
