Charles Blow: With the passage of the American Rescue Plan, the Democrats, alone, took another major step away from the mistakes of the Clinton legacy by increasing aid to families with children and to workers.
As The Times reported on Saturday: Whether the new law is a one-off culmination of those forces, or a down payment on even more ambitious efforts to address the nations challenges of poverty and opportunity, will be a defining battle for Democrats in the Biden era.
Either way, it is a distancing from the Clinton doctrine.

(19,114 posts)1. Dems went back to their roots
It won't be forgotten. Democrats are for working people, that's always been clear to you and I maybe, but the working class forgot for a short time. Trump stepped into that void for some of them, but now Biden is reminding everyone where Dems stand.
Clinton had the yoke of a Repub House and Senate. The Dems need to keep delivering or Biden will face the same fate come the '22 midterms.

The biggest difference is the demographic changes and winning those Georgia Senate seats.
