General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDid you get an actual answer from the IRS "Get My Payment" site? Please post here!
Please post here whether you got an answer, either yes or no, from the IRS "Get My Payment" website. If not, what was the response that you did get?
And either way, please also answer these questions:
Did you enter your Social Security number with or without dashes? i.e. "123456789" or "123-45-6789"?
Did you enter your date of birth in the MM/DD/YYYY format or some other format?
What format did you use for your street address? If it failed, did you try looking up your address on the USPS.COM site and entering it way the USPS has it? Did that work?
It's frustrating that when the IRS site doesn't return a proper response, you can't tell whether the site doesn't recognize who you are, or it does know who you are but can't answer for some other reason.

(17,239 posts)fed them, housed them. we never had the $$ to get them nuetered. our Gracie went to Cat Heaven.... Sophie did too. In 2010, he found Annie and Taffy at a metal recycling yard. Snickers went to Cat Heaven soon AFTER. Our girl INKY was a feral baby and we adopted her to kinda take place of Sophie our cat panther. Year after that, he found baby Sadie and brought her home. She was a greedy little girl who loved her replacement milk. few months after that he found our boy cat SALLY. Vets told us 2 times Sally was a girl.... well he wasn't. Sally knew his name so we kept it.
Always liked the Johnny Cash song.... a boy named Sue so we got a boy cat with a girl name. All of our cats were rescued. the cats in hubby's colony have just disappeared so we won't be adopting any more. ANNIE, TAFFY AND INKY will be 11 this year and SADIE & SALLY will be 8.
yes 5 cats make us very busy so hub and i can't get into trouble.

(7,873 posts)I entered my SSN without dashes and entered my birthday how the input stipulated (i.e., DD/MM/YYYY, including the dashes).
It said my check and my husbands check is scheduled for deposit into our checking on Wednesday, March 17. I entered our socials without dashes, and had to use our PO Box instead of our physical address. Another friend checked his and the information was exactly like ours.

We got relief payment #1 with no problem. But with relief payment #2, my husband got the above message & he never got any money. Now we're both getting this message. Our only recourse for his missing payment #2 is to claim it on our 2019 taxes. I'm gonna be a little POd if we have to wait until next year's tax time to get this payment.

You can check the application again to see whether there has been an update to your information. Get My Payment data is updated once per day, so there's no need to check back more often.
So, I have gotten neither. I guess I'll have to turn it all over to my tax accountant to try and get both through my tax filing....

(14,811 posts)I went ahead & changed my username too. I've been going back & forth on it ever since the announcement. I moved back to the St. Louis area (where I grew up) five years ago, so my former username was a little confusing to some here.
A couple of my sisters went a little overboard on the "Bernie mittens" memes but some were hilarious.

(146,331 posts)On that site, do not use dashes in your SS#. Just numbers.
Date of birth in the format they show underneath that field, which is just as you showed.
Address must be the USPS approved address. If you don't know it, you can look it up, at the link you provided.
The site works, but has lousy error correction routines. You have to enter data in the format it expects. It should not be that finicky, but it is. Their field verification system could strip out the hyphens from the SS#.
It could tell you if you entered the birthdate in the wrong format.
It could check the USPS address verifier for you.
It does not do those things, but it should. Amazon does. Other sites do. That IRS site does not. It should, but it doesn't.

(146,331 posts)do not do customer-friendly data verification. I've run into that elsewhere, too. Without an error correcting routine for each field, any error just causes the system to present an error message or not to provide a result.
I'm not sure why good data verification routines are not used. It could be that the underlying database software is antiquated and doesn't offer proper error handling routines. Or it could just be laziness on the part of those who create the interface.
But, you're right. Business have to avoid annoying their customers, so they pay attention to such things. The government doesn't have to avoid that, so it doesn't. It should.
I'm very, very careful when doing data entry on any government website. I know the rules. I look carefully at the instructions and follow them to the letter. I know my correct USPS address format. In fact, Chrome usually fills in such forms automatically, and I've loaded all the correctly formatted information into my information so it gets it right every time.
The proper way to take SS# information is to use three separate fields, advancing to the next one when the previous one has a valid data entry.
Same thing with date fields. A lot of business websites force you to use drop-down lists to make sure you get the date field correct.
Same with credit card numbers, but most commercial sites let you enter it any way you like, using spaces or dashes or whatever, and then stripping out those unnecessary items to the raw numbers.
Phone numbers can be handled the same way as SS #s or any numerical data entry fields that people fill out in multiple ways. If someone puts the area code inside parentheses, and used hyphens in the phone number, a bone simple routine can strip out any non-numerical characters. Child's play for even a novice programmer, and most data entry modules include such features anyhow.
But the government doesn't understand interface design. It's like stepping back into the early 1980s on most websites when a user needs to enter data.

(65,180 posts)For me - deposit date of 3/17 to a closed account yet again! Last time they did reissue a check, but who knows how long it will take. For the second stimulus, I was delayed a month.
For my mom - she gets the Not Available message. This may mean she is in the upcoming batch that will be mailed. Best scenario would be that they are finding her current bank account through Social Security.

I got the first payment direct deposit to my account, the second one came as an annoying to use debit card, no idea why. who knows what will happen this time? nobody in the family has got theirs yet this time.

(3,266 posts)Use the address as it appears on the last tax return you've submitted - that has been processed! Do not use the address on your 20-20 return if you haven't rec'd your refund yet. Use the address on the last return for which you've received your refund.
With those three things in that format you should be able to access your info.

It seems to come up both ways even when I enter the same address. Sometimes the address is accepted and sometimes not. Sometimes a variation of the address works and sometimes not. No rhyme or reason to it that I can tell.

What gives? They sure didn't have any trouble sending me a bunch of useless paper forms to file quarterly estimated taxes (which we don't need to do since we don't meet their criteria for last year). Irritating.

(32,094 posts)My credit union sent an e-mail notifying me that it had been deposited, something they didn't do with the previous stimulus checks. I just got my paper notification for the $600 check a few days ago. Trump left a big fucking mess, and it's not surprising that he turned the IRS into a pile of shit, too.
