(26,366 posts)as a neutral fact like 'attended college' or 'was from the Atlanta area' not implying anything about the person being necessarily good or bad.

(32,626 posts)as a church-going, local boy surely is not a 'neutral fact'. Date of Birth, Address, those are 'neutral facts'. You will never see a young black man who goes to church, and is local described in the same manner after murdering 8 people. Unless those people are black. I don't find it "offensive", I find it appalling that any journalist would write that crap, but I don't care enough to be offended

(90,364 posts).... It's a 12 year old black boy who was murdered by cops then it's always something bad like kid ate too much candy or some other b*******
The headline is typical yellow journalism racist ass whitewashing a criminal and it's typical and it needs to stop

We never heard if he went to church, or that he had a family who loved him, or that he was a human being...

I didn't think they were saying he was radicalized, or that the tweet was an attack on churches. I certainly did not see the headline as an innocuous profile. I saw it as another soft-pedaling of a (mass) murderer who happened to be white, in a world of news where dark-skin suspects are regularly portrayed by the media in much more negative ways.
But, who knows why they pulled it? I'm happy they did because of the reasons stated.
