General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe need to make sure white women hear
That 172 republicans voted against the violence against women act passed in the House today. Especially southern white women.
There is no pretense for them in any way shape or form.

(12,681 posts)That bill apparently federalized specific local databases that would have closed, amongst other things, a loophole that would allow a threatening spouse or SO to be able to purchase guns even if there was a restraining order on file, even if the state turned a blind eye on that sort of thing.

(11,571 posts)Absolutely we should regress - get back to an era when there was only law when TPTB felt like it.
Also...the Catholic church seems to attach more importance to assault rifles than they do to women. At least, I've never seen a ceremony specifically blessing women as a group...a collective. Assault rifles? Oh, sure. They get holy water.

(32,902 posts)The press needs to ask these people locally and very pointedly why they would vote NO on a bill to protect women. This is sickening.
