Senator Barrasso (WY-Racist) was complaining to Judy Woodruff on the PBS Newshour that the 'American Rescue Plan' was way to big and the Repubs had a much smaller plan that was better.
You and other Republicans are saying this is too much money for the federal government to be spending. How much of it is unnecessary for Wyoming?
HOH!
Hilarity ensues.

(4,846 posts)It's the blue states that are undeserving and taking too much money. Those blue states are giving free money to undocumented people and some more. I wish I am kidding or exaggerating but that's exactly what they think and say.

(11,744 posts)New York and California are two of the 3 largest states in terms of population, in the US. They are also two of the largest economic engines in the US. Yep, by GDP California is #1 and New York #3. The two states combined accounted for more than 22% of the national GDP, in 2020, when both states were "locked down" and according to Barrasso, "didn't act responsibly and stay open". Both states took a big economic hit and were hit hard by the pandemic because of size and population, and for some of our own actions. However, the distribution of the American Rescue Act is likely more than equitable based on population size and need.
What idiots like Barrasso don't like is that the funds are actually being sent to the people and to local governments to meet their needs, rather than to wealthy corporations to siphon off the top.

(54,445 posts)How much of this wholly unnecessary excess will Wyoming be sending back to the Federal Government?
It doesn't have to be to the exact cent. Rounded to the nearest hundred thousand will do fine.

(52,166 posts)He kept saying that Wyoming only got $1 billion out of $350 billion given out. I actually knew that meant Wyoming actually got more money per capita than it deserved but even I didn't know the true extent. I wish she would have pointed that out to him. Wyoming has a population of 579,000 while the US is 328,200,000 which means that about 1 out of every 566 Americans live in Wyoming, meaning that they deserved around $618 million not $1 billion.
