An iConsent App would enable all users to formally document their consent to sex, with a press of a button giving permission for one intercourse, valid for 24 hours. No this is not satire. An iConsent app? Thatll press a girls buttons, Commissioner
Kerri Sackville, Sydney Morning Herald columnist
In yet another Groundhog Day for Australian women, a middle-aged white male has proposed a solution to the problem of sexual violence.
No, its not a plan to educate men on how to treat women with respect. Its not a strategy to reduce the sense of entitlement many men feel over womens bodies. Oh, and its certainly not a pledge to believe women who allege sexual assault, or to make the process of seeking justice easier and less traumatic.
No, ladies, its an app.
Yes, the NSW Police Commissioner, Mick Fuller, has proposed a Consent App, similar to that used in Denmark. The Denmark app, iConsent, allows users to formally document their consent to sex, with a press of a button giving permission for one intercourse, valid for 24 hours. I am not entirely sure what happens if you want more than one intercourse within that 24-hour period, or if an act of intercourse begins at hour 23 and continues through til hour 25, but thats for the Danish to sort out.
... It is stunning, I know, to consider that an idea proposed by a 50-something male doesnt effectively meet the needs of women, but alas, it does not.
