Are both interrupting Heidi Heitkamp! Knock it off boys!

(14,856 posts)The cracks against Republicans might be funny sometimes, but I think he's a smart aleck with selfish values.
He's been a close friend of Ann Coulter!
His reply during a Rolling Stones interview:
https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-news/checking-in-with-bill-maher-in-1999-69781/
"Im a libertarian. The line Ive always used is, I would be a Republican if they would. Which means that I like the Barry Gold-water Republican Party, even the Reagan Republican Party. I want a mean old man to watch my money. I dont want a Republican to be funny. I dont want him to be charming. Because government is a sieve that takes as much money as it can and gives it away, usually needlessly."
Edit:
I also never really LEARN anything from watching Maher's show, unless my desire is to learn how to be a better wise-cracker.
It's nothing compared to shows like "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" in that regard.

Maher isn't RW; he's a crank.

(26,619 posts)I don't know why anyone hear even bothers to watch it still. I never bother with it. It's sad because I really enjoyed it a few years ago, and I think it's gone downhill dramatically.

(14,856 posts)... for me to bother watching it.
I looked up Maher's various political views and beliefs (currently) last night on his Wikipedia page, and I'm pretty much totally aligned with him. Yet I still don't like HIM very much, personality-wise.
The personality mismatch is a minor point for me, though. I mostly don't like his show's tendency to have celebrities instead of experts.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is a much better show for me. I'm far more likely to learn something new while watching it. It's more like watching a shortened version of Frontline (PBS) for me, but with humor.
Edit: Not to mention when he wastes my time by inviting right-wing LIARS to the show, to supposedly present "both sides". What good does that do when the person is a liar? (Or maybe horribly misinformed, to give some of them the benefit of the doubt.)
If someone on DU shows a video clip of an enlightening segment of Maher's show, I've tended to check them out. I'll let others find those gold nuggets, though.

(5,803 posts)He is a misogynistic pig.
Its also interesting how Maher is more than willing to attack his fellow liberals, yet allows plenty of airtime for bloviaters like Steve Bannon and Milo Yiannopoulos.

(33,382 posts)He books those creeps because he wants to take them on. He'll never break through; they're impervious to reason. He doesn't put them on the panels.
I haven't seen much Misogyny per se when I've watched; I would agree he needs more 2 women/1 man, or all-women panels. Do you mean in his personal life he's a misogynist?
MrsCoffee
(5,803 posts)Do a google search to see just how many people understand what a misogynistic pig he is.
He is just fucking gross. So many examples out there. Not hard to actually go look.
