"They play racist propaganda on their TV all day. That has no place anywhere, especially in a neighborhood diner. I'm sure pasty white people are welcomed here. Everyone else should be cautious."
EDIT: - I changed the review and removed the "Pasty" from pasty white people.
And as an aside, I am a white woman. I have referred to myself as a "pasty white lady" many times. Maybe it is just a self deprecating joke and I didn't realize other people might not read it that way.

(1,336 posts)I'd call it a diner!
Back when we were allowed to cross the border into the US, it would drive me crazy not being able to find a classical music station on the car radio. It was all talk radio, C&W, gospel or hard rock. Even NPR was hard to find. We made sure to take our CDs with us!
You would never find a TV in a European restaurant, and here in the GWN, you'll usually only find TVs in sports bars. And our cable companies make you pay extra for Faux Noise, not part of the regular package (thank dog).

(6,928 posts)Fox News is Russian government-oligarch propaganda, their mission is to divide Americans along racial, political, and social lines.
Many pasty white people like me have spoken up at businesses, doctors offices, and banks where FoxNews spews misinformation.
I understand the outrage, but white people are not the enemy.
BobTheSubgenius
(11,564 posts)The trouble is, we look quite a lot like the enemy. Not our fault, of course, but I do take that into consideration. It should be made clear, however, that this point you make is valid, and the suspicion your appearance engenders is not at all unlike the exact social ill being fought - judging people immediately, based on nothing but their appearance.

Not to be hyperbolic, but the political consensus in 1923 was that Hitler was toast after his failed coup attempt.
As long as a third of Americans regard him as their savior, we face a risk to the essence of our democracy. And there are still his sociopathic grifting children to consider. The threat he and his ilk pose is far from over.
Luckily the man is both aged and dim-witted. In a very real sense his incompetence saved us from an even worse catastrophe. Of course, it was his incompetence that also led to the needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans.
Difficult for me or anyone who suffered under his regime to just "let him go."

(8,445 posts)It was included in every package of cable offered.
Many years ago I got to a point where I just couldn't stomach any FOXNews at all, and my husband was fine with it. Then he started spending more and more time with my brother, going on fishing trips to North Dakota where there are a LOT of rightwingers. He started watching FOXNews when I wasn't around, and then it started getting so bad that if I left the room for just a few minutes, I'd come back and find he had switched the channel to it.
We argued a lot about it, and then when Comcast raised their rates yet again, I told him that we just needed to get rid of cable altogether. I paid the bills, and it was in my name. When I went in to stop service, I was offered a package with the cable internet, which I intended to keep for business purposes, along with the most bare-bones television, for less than just cable. So of course I took it.
I was out and about doing things before my husband got out of bed the next morning. When I came home and walked in the door, he was sitting in his chair staring straight ahead, absolutely fuming. He couldn't even tell me what his effing problem was. I finally figured out it was because his precious propaganda television channel was gone.
We've been divorced for two years. I am happy and my life is peaceful.

(81,440 posts)Ive asked that the channel be changed, too, when the TV somewhere has Pox Noise on. Vigilance!
I dont let it go. I sorta feel like Im on a mission.
Maybe its because I spent more than 20 years in the news biz. And I and everyone so worked with at some really serious and respected news outlets was always incredibly conscious of always getting it right, making sure it was truthful. accurate, agenda-free, and as objective as possible. That detestable channel and its vile little wannabe clones have done more to foul the nest than almost any other entity or individual aside from trump or limbaugh. I feel rather personally affronted when I see how theyve distorted and almost literally shat upon the facts, the reality, and THE TRUTH. Theyve done an EXTREME disservice to our country.
I just hope the damage isnt irreparable.

(34,137 posts)Salads as good as ours deserve a superior dressing, which is why Wendys has worked exclusively with Marzetti since the late 1980s. Our Culinary Innovation team partnered with Marzetti to bring our customers Marzetti Simply Dressed salad dressings which are made without preservatives, trans fat, high fructose corn syrup, or artificial flavors. Just the good stuff.
https://www.wendys.com/nutrition-and-health
I love Marzetti's coleslaw dressing, but I found a recipe online that is very similar so I mostly make my own. Though it is easier to buy a bag of shredded cabbage (with some carrots and other stuff) and a bottle of Marzetti's since I am the only one in the house that likes coleslaw. Can just pour out a bowl of the cabbage, spoon out some dressing and I am good for lunch.

(12,396 posts)And very expensive. I think Wendys wants you to get that particular salad only at their restaurant.
csziggy
(34,137 posts)That are very easy if you can find pomegranate juice. I've never looked for it so I have no idea how available it is.
Now I'm starting to think I have been missing something by not going to Wendy's for years. I used to drive through to get a small bacon cheeseburger about three times a year when I needed a hamburger fix, but haven't done that in a very long time, well before Covid-19. Never had a salad at a Wendy's since I only went for the burgers.

(34,137 posts)We have a big salad every day with dinner and I often make my own dressings - exception is the Ken's Steakhouse Raspberry Walnut vinaigrette. I haven't managed to make anything as good - but I may try the Mazetti version which I saw.
If we go out for lunch, we usually go for something like the Cuban sandwich at the local Cuban Grill or the Cabo BLT at a little locally owned cafe (BLT with avocado and their garlic aiolo). We don't often go to chains except when we are traveling and in a hurry.

(22,270 posts)We were driving to Phoenix and stopped for breakfast at a Denny's. It had a huge dining room with a tv near the cashier and another one way back in the corner at the far end. Bunch of men sitting around back there. The front TV was not FOX so I thanked the cashier. He just grinned and pointed to the back of the room "see that bunch of men over by the other TV; they come in every morning for breakfast and then sit around drinking coffee and watching Fox. Sometimes I mess with them and change the channel to MSNBC or CNN and it drives them nuts. " We loved it!!!
PS that was the nicest Denny's I have ever seen; I like a good breakfast when I am traveling and our hotel did not have hot breakfast. It is somewhere between Fort Worth and El Paso.

(18,640 posts)We have a place here in NE Ohio called Top Notch Diner that is owned by a republican. I first discovered that when we called to ask for a couple booths to have a group meeting for John Kerry phone banking and grab some food. He said he didn't want us there, so we met at Panera Bread who afforded us plenty of room to spend our money.
Since Trump he's gone overboard, like so many, and erected signs and Trump flags throughout the property. He says he does this for everyone including democrats. Now there's just one giant Trump flag and an upside down American flag flying out front. Masks are discouraged, even after the death of one server.
I'm not going in to see what's on TV, but i understand this hangs by the register:

I never understood why any business would take a side and lose half the customers, and I never understood why that diner refused us accommodations back in '08. It should have been: "Come on in, I've got you set up in the back, and here are some menus", with the same line for republicans.
My oldest son, his wife, and two of his kids are as democrat as they get, even posting anti Trump memes and helping GOTV. He owns a biker bar near here, but does he argue with customers or throw them out for being republicans? He just nods his head at their bullshit and gets them another Bud, just as cold as the democrat's.

(18,402 posts)If we go out to eatwell, when we did in the Before TimesI dont want a television blaring or even flashing its lights and colors on a screen, no matter what its playing. The whole point of going out to me is getting out of the kitchen, away from TVs and devices, and to have a quiet, peaceful meal that I didnt have to cook or clean up after, and to have some real conversation, without staring elsewhere at a screen while eating. .
OK, exception: once a year or so we liked to go to this Spanish restaurant for tapas, and we always sat at the bar and ordered a few small dishes and a glass of wine. They had a screen that was playing Spanish stuff. Very colorful, and I dont think they even had the sound on. That was the small price to pay for some delicious jamon and octopus.
