Just In: Miami Beach has declared a State of Emergency. The mayor says Spring Break is out of control. The City is closing the entire entertainment district at 8PM. They've blocked bridges into Miami Beach after 9PM. Only locals and hotel guests allowed in.

F*ck you, DeSantis.

It's not the # of people, it's their ignoring of safety guidelines. Most know Florida doesn't enforce. They are young. But visitors go back home after the break. Not sure what the emergency declaration will do, other than spread out Spring Breakers to neighboring communities.

When they come down with Covid symptoms a week or two later, it counts for their home state infection rate.

When they asymptomatically spread Covid to their family and peers, it also counts in their home state rate.

Florida is exporting their Covid cases. Florida's Covid rate does not full reflect the actual spread of disease within Floria.

Thus DeSantis can brag about how much lower Florida's infection rate is compared to California and become a hero to the right wing.

100% correct. We have indeed become a chief exporter of COVID. I wish we can get of DeSantis next year. He has been an utter failure.

Party’s over: Miami Beach closing causeways, imposing spring break South Beach curfew

Due to overwhelming spring break crowds, the city of Miami Beach will impose an 8 p.m. curfew in the South Beach entertainment district and block most eastbound traffic entering the city after 9 p.m., beginning Saturday.

Interim City Manager Raul Aguila, who will authorize the emergency measures, told the Miami Herald that he recommends keeping them in place through April 12, or the end of spring break. A countywide midnight curfew is already in place due to COVID-19.

“These crowds are in the thousands,” Aguila said. “We’re at capacity.”

The virus has no wings and no legs. It cannot travel on its own. The only way it can get someplace is if we take it there.

I've often wondered who is footing the bill for these younger people/college kids travelling to spring break vacation spots? I can only imagine what my parents would have said to me if I said, "I'm going to Florida on spring break. How much money will you give me?" Same holds true or my two grown kids. They wouldn't have even bothered to ask me. They already knew the answer. My kids worked over their spring breaks.

The political motive of ignoring the covid safety protocols and trying to discredit the vaccine is utterly insane.
I bet none of these spring breakers protested once at the airport when they had to take off their shoes at the TSA checkpoint.

He'll overrule the mayor and tell everyone to go back to having a good time. Whitewash the numbers, and hey presto! Florida is leading the nation in stopping the spread. Nobody in Florida is going to call him out. The media won't do it, either; they're too focused on Cuomo in New York.

In a couple of years, once he's safely ensconced in the Senate, some of this horror will come out, but by then it'll be too late, and we'll be consumed with the inexplicable way the ocean keeps submerging half the state every 12 hours or so.

I believe I read somewhere that during the last surge it was mostly caused by the 20-40 age group (those numbers are probably a bit off, but fairly close to what I heard).

So glad I'm vaccinated.
