LOUISVILLE, Ky. Kent Taylor, founder and CEO of the Texas Roadhouse restaurant chain, has died. He was 65. His family and the company say he took his own life after suffering from symptoms related to COVID-19, including severe tinnitus.
Taylors family and the company on Sunday confirmed his death in a statement.
Tinnitus is a common condition involving ringing or or other noises in one or both ears. Experts say the coronavirus can exacerbate tinnitus problems.
Kent battled and fought hard like the former track champion that he was, but the suffering that greatly intensified in recent days became unbearable, the statement said.

(83,912 posts)I have suffered from severe Tinnitus for 30 years. I have yet to take my life. It sucks. It does. It makes you a little crazy, yet you live with it or not.

(3,055 posts)To deal with it for so long. I have had pain so bad I thought about throwing the off switch. I am glad I let it go and am thankful for all I have. I can understand the level and he obviously died how he did. I feel sorry for everyone in pain.

(6,617 posts)Well said, WA-03 Democrat.
Everyone has their own personal breaking point, and it's wrong to judge someone whose threshold is lower than ours. I imagine Mr. Taylor reached his and - as Meghan Markle recently said - "didn't want to be alive anymore".
May he rest in Peace.

(532 posts)I've had it pretty severe for over decade too. For the first 3 years or so it really bothered me and contributed to anxiety and depression. But then I finally just sort of got used to it. Now I only really notice it when it drowns out other sounds.

(1,450 posts)I had severe tinnitus about 15 years ago. A friend recommended his EENT. Made an appointment with no problem. Was really uneasy when I met the doc. He looked to be about 75 plus. He spent about 10 minutes asking about all my health issues. Gave me a hearing test. Spent another 15 minutes talking about the responses I had written on my new patient sheet. Explained about tinnitus like a course for a 5th-grader. Then finally told me there was no real cure but he was sure I would be helped by a sample of a supplement he had been given at a professional conference he recently attended. He gave me a small bottle of r-alpha lipoic acid. Said that new research was showing promise with this supplement. No side affects and would not interfere with my HB meds and might even help. He asked me to complete the entire bottle of 20 pills, twice daily but to call him as soon as I noticed any difference or had any problems.
I called him four days later to let him know that the ringing in my ears had stopped. He told me to take all the supplement and to keep my appointment with him which was scheduled for two weeks hence. After two more visits and weaning down to 1/day for to the next month or so I felt fine. On the third appointment he told me as long as the ringing stopped not to worry about taking any more supplement and that he did not need to see me again for six months. After three more six-month appointments I never saw him again. The ringing stopped. He told me if the ringing started back to just repeat the process I had completed with him and see him or another EENT as needed. Strange how he didn't seem to try to make me a permanent patient and didn't try to charge excessive fees and spent so much time with me. I guess I may have been a research subject without notice.
Anyway, that' just my story but it may be worth checking this out with your physician if needed.
