DC statehood...Hawaii 2.0?

In a way, this is true.

Back in 1959, when Hawaii wanted to become a state, one particular objection came from none other than James Eastland, the white supremacist Mississippi Senator.

Now?
Eastland is long dead, but his successors want to make sure Washington DC, with it's substantial black population, not be a state.

There was a pretty strong belief that the Southern Senators did not like the notion of letting in all those brown people, like my friends and neighbors and classmates. Hm. And when it finally happened it was pretty exciting. That was probably the first newspaper I saved — it had a headline that practically filled the whole above the fold of the front page.

What’s that French phrase? — The more things change, the more they remain the same. The inheritors of the white supremacy malignancy are still among us.

Took me a long time to see the point of statehood for our country’s Capitol, but once I got it I became wholeheartedly in favor.

on the report from Oahu back in 1959, Hekate!

I was a freshman in High School in Colorado.. never dreaming I'd live here one day in the 50th state.

I love the Diversity & the Aloha Spirit.. I hope the same for DC one fine day!
