I got approved a couple days ago and had set an appointment for 4/1, through the county health department. It would be an hour drive to the clinic, which is all the way on the other side of the county.
My boss was picking up her prescriptions at the little local pharmacy today, which is where she, her husband, and special needs son got their shots last week. She asked if they had any open slots coming up and they have several for tomorrow! Yay!
I canceled my county appointment and am going to the little pharmacy tomorrow on the way to work. Two of my other coworkers have made appointments, also.
We are getting ready to open our outside dining area in mid-April-ish and will be fully vaccinated by that time. Woohoo!

(42,568 posts)Got it around 9:00am, didnt feel anything until about 6 pm when I started yawning and feeling a little fuzzy. Took an ibuprofen and it seemed to help.
Thats good to know. We have a short day tomorrow (2-8) and Im on phone duty, so I wont be wielding any knives.

(4,608 posts)Im glad to be getting the Moderna, it seems to have less side effects.
And Congrats on being fully vaccinated! Im impressed with how fast the process is moving now that we have competent leaders in place.

(16,846 posts)I'm glad y'all are getting vaccinated before opening the restaurant to dining. Glad you're finding a place more convenient to you as well. A lot of people will tell you that the shot made them sick, but I felt fine, after both Moderna shots. It isn't a given that you'll be sick afterwards, so don't be afraid.

(4,608 posts)My boss is great. Weve been doing booming carry out business all year, and she insists on being the only one to interact face to face with the public (heavily masked and from the plexiglassed in area her husband built last spring). Weve got signs about proper pandemic protocol everywhere and has no problem reprimanding people without a mask.
We are known for our patio and have been getting tons of calls asking if its open yet. I have been missing that sweet, sweet tip money and am excited about getting back to business as usual. It will be nice to see our regulars again, after only talking to them on the phone for the past year.
Congrats on your second shot! Im so excited to be starting the process.

(8,079 posts)But in terms of arm soreness, #1 was worse. #2 just a bad bruise and slight itching.
The following day after #2, I did have that "somethin' ain't right" feeling but after a brief afternoon nap, I was better.
"Your mileage may vary," as the saying goes, I guess.

(14,855 posts)I made an initial appointment through my county's public health department. I was so relieved after finding nothing available, anywhere, during my prior hours-long online searches. (As I kept loudly cursing the insanity of such a decentralized way of managing it!)
It wasn't very close to me, and the idea of dealing with so many other people seeking shots wasn't very appealing either, but at least I finally found an opening!
Then I checked online again later that same night, and saw that a very nearby pharmacy had openings now! I couldn't have found a closer location if every authorized place in the county had openings!
So I cancelled the public health appointment and had my first Moderna shot at the local pharmacy instead! (About a week ago.) I was almost the only patron inside the pharmacy during the entire time I was there!

(4,608 posts)The health department process was so tedious! They kept sending emails and texting, telling me not to call them, theyd call me (which I never did, anyways, so...?).
This pharmacy is about a mile away from my work, and its on my way to work, so its super convenient. And its very small. My boss said there was only one other customer in there when her family went for their first shots last week.
Congrats on your shot! Im finally beginning to see a light at the end of this long, dark tunnel.

(4,533 posts)The genius couple who used genetic editing to create the Pfizer vaccine put their cancer vaccine work temporarily on hold. But they have returned to it, using the same mRNA trick used for the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines. This amazing couple, who were back in the lab right after their morning wedding, exactly like Marie and Pierre Curie, think they will start human trials on a cancer vaccine in three years. (6,082 posts)Got my first Moderna a couple of weeks ago. About a week ago my arm was numb and itchy so I went to the doctor and she thought it was just an allergic reaction. Yesterday I noticed a rash, went back and found out it was shingles. She said the vaccine probably lowered my immune system enough to activate the shingles. So keep an eye on any symptoms you get after!

(44,973 posts)I don't think vaccine lowers immune response, isn't it supposed to kick it into gear?
