‘One less Asian to put up with’: Hate crime probed after Seal Beach woman receives threatening letter lauding husband’s death

Police are investigating whether a hate crime was committed after an Asian woman in Seal Beach received a racist and threatening letter celebrating her husband’s recent death.

Claudia Choi called authorities Monday to report she feared the safety of her 82-year-old mother who’d received the letter at her residence in Leisure World, a large retirement community.

The handwritten, anonymous letter begins: “Now that [your husband] is gone makes it one less Asian to put up with in Leisure World.”

It goes on to say the presence of Asian Americans is not “resting well” with others in the community and closed by telling the woman to “watch out” and “go back to your country where you belong.”

I hope they find this jagoff and stick them in jail. I just pray I never see this happen in person. My anger is extremely bad and I wouldn't hesitate to defend the person.

I know it's not most of us.

But this was ordained from the top, hatred .. from Trump.

And 74million voters are okay with that.

That 60s penmanship style.. but there's little quivering, so I think she's not much over 70.

rather with an upstroke to close out the loop as most of learned when writing cursive. Reminds me more of a man's handwriting because of that.

I am a penmanship expert since I had to decipher both cursive and printing by students in 1st and 6th grades for over 15 years. I'd say the person is definitely over 75. If police check anyone out they should start by looking for a senior.

you have to have to write this letter to a widow...it's breathtaking.

It's one thing to think this, but to then take the time to write the letter, consider whether or not to send it and then decide, yep, this is the right move...that's some next level evil.

Leisure World is a retirement community in Seal Beach, CA, located in Orange County, CA. Orange County is where the John Birch Society was formed.

Michelle Steel.

And I am sure whoever wrote that letter voted for Michelle Steel.

So far, Steel has not said a word about this incident. Instead, she sent out a tweet pushing for the recall of Governor Newsom over his covid restrictions.

The handwriting is slow and shaky. I’m guessing they will be located or die. Anybody who hand writes a letter like that is demented, in a clinical way.

Republicans made it fashionable for them to be an asshole.

And, like theologians debating the number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin, the police are trying to figure out if this is a hate crime.
