A personal anecdote re: the human virus known as Louis DeJoy

This past January, it took 24 days for my mortgage payment to be delivered to my bank..
I called the bank, and there was a recording of a blanket apology to all customers who had experienced a delay.
The reason for the delay was that the USPS was slow in delivering their mail -- sorry for the inconvenience ....
My mortgage payment for Feb was processed on Feb 11th.
My mortgage payment for March was processed on the March 6th.
The mortgage statement for April was sent to me on March 11th, and it arrived at my house on the 23rd.
You may notice a pattern here.
I don't experience any problems with mail that I send within the state (MA) BUT, interstate mail service is a MESS.

On this last statement, there was a late fee for January. I called and complained "foul".
The customer service rep was very helpful and canceled the fee. (but what about those customers who are less vigilant than I?)
We had a short conversation, commiserating about the USPS and how DeJoy has screwed up mail delivery -- BY DESIGN.
He told me that he helped a customer whose payment was delayed by 7 WEEKS, and the reason I was on hold for 25 minutes was due to the volume of callers with the same issue I had.
It's like a hostile takeover of a company, rolled out in a passive-aggressive manner.

The bottom line is that DeJoy sabotaged the USPS. It wasn't the "US Mail" that created this problem, it was DeJoy.
At the expense of DeJoy's and Trump's amusement, people LIKE ME are getting charged late fees which effects our credit scores.
At the expense of DeJoy's and Trump's amusement, customer service reps are flooded with complaints that DeJoy has caused.
At the expense of DeJoy's and Trump's amusement, people aren't getting their medications delivered on time.
Great job, "Brownie" DeJoy!
BTW, Trump still lost the election despite your efforts to screw up mail-in ballots.

FFS, why does this weasel still have a job?

1. I've been saying what you're saying since December, only regarding credit cards.

The statement arrives late. Even if you have the money ready and send your payment in within 24 hours of delivery, it arrives after the "due date". That means late fees, interest, penalties, compound interest, and a stain on your credit history.

Think about it -- you're helpless. And you're not about to pay $35 for FedEx or $25 USPS for expedited delivery of your payment.

3. Yes. Stop using the mail and use your bank's electronic payment system.

You control when the money is delivered and withdrawn from your account.

Or

Get a debit card from your primary account and pay over the phone or over the internet tubes on the same day..

4. I bought a house last December.

The first mortgage statement in January was mailed to my apartment address--instead of the house--on January 14th. It has NEVER arrived. I went online in January to register with the bank holding the mortgage and set up the option to make my mortgage payment directly from my bank. Not automatic. I sign on each month and authorize the mortgage payment to be withdrawn from my bank account. I choose the day for the payment and it is deducted from my bank account about two days later.

Fu*k DeJoy and the orange one, too.

They send invoices and payments by check through the mail. I've been screaming about this IRL for a year, because the company I work for does.

... red states in regular time. Stuff to/from Alaska is four or five days. Stuff to/from Florida is three or four. I sent Christmas packages to Ohio, Florida, Missouri, Arizona and Alaska a week or ten days before the holiday and all got there without accelerated service at least by Christmas Eve.

Letters to blue states take a week or more when they used to take three.

Priority Mail 1-Day takes 5 days. Bills weeks late. But packages coast to coast 3 days.

I do recommend Bill Pay, or online payments from the merchants website. I was at zero online banking 3 years ago. Now it's the way to pay.

Also considering closing debit card. Vulnerable, they say. Credit cards carry less risk.

he is trying.

This is how the Postmaster General gets elected:
The postmaster general is selected and appointed by the Board of Governors of the Postal Service, the members of which are appointed by the president of the United States, with the advice and consent of the United States Senate. The postmaster general then also sits on the board.

This is how the Postmaster General gets fired:
The postmaster general does not serve at the pleasure of the president, but can be dismissed by the Board of Governors.

The problem is that the trump administration placed trumpists in the Board of Governors, so Biden needs to replace all the people on the board, then have the new members fire DeJoy.

I finally switched to online bill paying for everything. I'd been a stubborn holdout, paying some things online, but paper checks for most bills but the mail service is just too unreliable right now.
