They get in during the winter, especially bad ones like we had.

Epidemiologists Nationwide are sounding the alarms over these findings.

If you haven't already done so, get vaccinated ASAP.

Didn't even know there were such things. aka roof rat. I kept asking 'how did that mouse climb the tree?'

humans every year. There are human deaths due to this yearly throughout the U.S. and
around the world.

I don't think I'll ever be going outside my door without masking, distancing or sanitizing
for the rest of my life. I'll be getting whatever vaccines and boosters I can. I'll continue to
avoid contact with rodents of any kind and make sure to be careful to avoid their fresh
or dried urine and feces. How about you?

so, no, do not "think black plague". The very next tweet by the professor says mouse to human transmission is unknown.

There's no need for alarmism.

not rats. With bubonic plague, the flees on the rats were the carriers.

This study is not yet peer reviewed. From what I could understand, nobody knows yet exactly what this study will mean for human infection.

The variants used in the study are the South African and Brazilian ones. The study shows that mice are capable of getting those two variants. It does not show that wild mice have actually contracted it.

All the same, it might be wise to keep pet cats indoors. We know that cats can get it.

but rather that it can replicate and therefore mutate in mice, seeding endless variants and putting the gains made from vaccination at risk. I know there is plenty of alarmism around, but this particular thing actually alarms me.

Thank goodness we've had no signs of mice in years. Now I wonder how many other species could act as a vector...say if a cat caught an infected mouse.

OC, sincerely hope your ER physician sons are still holding up under all the tremendous pressure.
Hugs, my friend.

Of my water heater. I threw the whole thing away, no way to get rid of the smell. I’ve got lots of garter snakes in my yard. Between them and my cat, mice are no where to be found.
