(47,500 posts)from COVID-19, but will that protect the people he comes in contact with? Just because you don't get extremely ill, doesn't mean you won't be a carrier. Asymptomatic people can still spread the disease, often to much more vulnerable people. And in turn, the more the virus spreads, the more mutant variants there will be.
Clearly this man does not understand how viruses spread or how dangerous this particular virus is. By all means, do whatever you can to be healthy, but this is also about the health of the people you come contact with.

(47,500 posts)in an age of unparalleled access to information, that ignorance is epidemic. I'd often thought if all people could obtain knowledge, the world would be a better place, but that does not take into account basic morality, compassion, and commonsense.

(2,636 posts)All the information in the world is useless if one can't discern fact from fiction. These people confuse watching a youtube video an dreading blogs with actual research. Put them in a library with a card catalog and watch them melt down. Real researchers? bring on the microfiche!!!

(47,500 posts)failed so many people in so many ways.
A number of years ago, I was talking with some neighbors and the subject drifted to politics. This one woman, who seemed fairly intelligent, said a few things I found dubious. When I questioned her assertions, she smiled and said she stayed informed. She was so proud of herself, but as the conversation continued, it became quite clear that by "informed" she meant she watched Fox News.
I came to realize that so many Fox News viewers take great pride in keeping abreast of current events and politics, something that they never cared that much about until they got hooked on Fox. The same people who once watched soap operas and game shows, now have graduated to what they consider "News", news that is designed to keep their attention the same way the soap operas and game shows did. Then the move to the Internet gave them something even more enticing, conspiracy theories!

(2,386 posts)Even the vaccines, from what I understand through my own deep research, are not guaranteed to NOT spread the virus if one becomes infected....
I wear a mask primarily to protect myself, but in doing so I am glad I can also protect others..
PatSeg
(47,500 posts)The vaccines protect people from getting seriously ill or hospitalized, but apparently they can still shed the virus. Being we are still learning more about COVID every day, it is best to take what ever precautions are available to us. Masks are the simplest and the most effective way to prevent the spread and to keep the virus from mutating.

(47,500 posts)I noticed that when we moved to California 20 years ago. I didn't know at the time if it was to prevent the spread of disease or because of pollution, but it was a very common practice, especially among the elderly. So in that sense, they probably can adapt to all of this quite easily.

(43,890 posts)It's the Golgafrinchan Ark Fleet Ship B
We are it.
https://hitchhikers.fandom.com/wiki/Golgafrinchan_Ark_Fleet_Ship_B
The Golgafrincham Ark Fleet Ship B was a starship designed to relocate the (largely redundant) useless part of the population from the planet of Golgafrincham. The ship was led by the captain, with Number One and Number Two next in charge.
The Golgafrinchan Ark Fleet Ship B was a way of removing the basically useless citizens from the planet of Golgafrincham. A variety of stories were formed about the doom of the planet, such as blowing up, crashing into the sun or being eaten by a mutant star goat. The ship was filled with all the middlemen of Golgafrincham, such as the telephone sanitisers, account executives, hairdressers, tired TV producers, insurance salesmen, personnel officers, security guards, public relations executives, and management consultants.
Ark Fleet ships A and C were supposed to carry the people who ruled, thought, or actually did useful work.
The ship was programmed to crash onto its designated planet, Earth. The captain remembers that he was told a good reason for this, but had forgotten it, although the reason was later revealed to be because the Ark Ship B Golgafrinchans were a 'bunch of useless idiots'.

Does he think anti-vaxxers aren't going to use his facilities for free? How's he going to know I'm vaccinated if I don't show him my card? He'll never collect another membership fee again. Good luck surviving on juice and smoothie sales, there, fella.
Seems he's not very good at the whole business thing.

(50,559 posts)The Marines have "drill instructors," not drill sergeants. They are anal about this.
The Army has drill sergeants.
The Navy has Recruit Division Commanders, and the Air Force has Military Training Instructors.
The Coast Guard has Company Commanders.
All of them do the same things. They even wear the same hats.
