Just 12 people are responsible for '73% of Facebook's anti-vaxx content': study

A new study from the Center for Countering Digital Hate has found that just twelve people are responsible for the majority of anti-vaxx content found on major social media platforms.

The CCDH's latest report names people who are in a group that it has labeled the "Disinformation Dozen" who are responsible for 73 percent of the anti-vaxx content found on Facebook and whose content has been shared hundreds of thousands of times across the platform.

Included among the "Disinformation Dozen" are infamous anti-vaccination activists such as Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and also "alternative medicine" practitioners such as Ty and Charlene Bollinger, who have gained notoriety for pitching what critics describe as "snake oil" alternatives to vaccines.

I have a questions for Facebook, Instagram and Twitter's terms of service agreements, its a really simple question(s) ........... do you and your platforms support and enabling people getting killed because your to fucking lazy to remove these people from your tech platforms for the spreading's of this disinformation , or is it the simple fact that these people are also making money just like you are off the fucking ads which /and that's more important and value to the bottom, line............ ,,,,,,,,,,,, I really do hate Facebook,,,,,,,,

to walk between weeding out disinformation and censorship. They had to de-platform Trump and others who were posting lies that were working to bring down our government. I know that the lies regarding poisonous vaccines are a danger to public health, but there aren't as many people who are buying into that shit. People aren't trying to overthrow the government because they're scared of the vaccines.

As I said, I hate Facebook, but they have to pick their battles when it comes to who and what they censor. If they were to pull all of the wacky shit on their platform, they would lose a big chunk of their patrons, and they aren't going to risk doing that.

and they are letting these fallacies to occur then someone needs to take this and be held responsible, it really is not that hard in my world view, they have to step in and enforce there terms of agreement, just like they do here on DU, you either follow the rule or not, you are given warnings here if you violate the terms and if you persist they throw you out off the platform.
AS a former aircraft mechanic I see things in black and white, there really is / was no middle ground

FB, Youtube, twitter, Google etc all ACTIVELY push any content that is sensationalist.

Anything that is controversial, gets clicks etc is perfect for their business model of getting most people "engaged" ie spending time and clicks for their advertising etc. And they ACTIVELY push this - the worse the better. It is a conscious decision based on $$.

There shouldn't be a business model that makes a company one of the richest and most powerful by creating fear, anxiety, hate, etc in people. Using tools that are much more psychologically sophisticated that radio, tv, cable, etc. Where the "people" are not the customers but the "cattle" or commodity being strip mined.

Their choice to allow deadly disinformation campaigns on their platforms is intentional.

Stunning that FB amplified the voices of 12 people so loudly. Free speech is fine, but FB can and should limit the promoting of these 12 people's posts. There are ways they can allow "free speech" but also give the truth about the speech.
