Former President Donald Trump is reportedly plotting to create his own social media network to rival Twitter and Facebook -- but many longtime tech journalists are skeptical it will ever succeed.
Tech reporter Kara Swisher tells CNN political commentator David Axelrod in his "Axe Files" podcast that any Trump social media network will face serious challenges in getting off the ground, and she notes that Trump has a string of failed business ventures that make her even more skeptical that he can succeed.
"Here's my only comfort: Trump Steaks, Trump Water," she said, referring to two of the former president's most notorious business flops. "When you have a social network, you actually have to have network effects. And one of the great things about Twitter, and also the negative thing is everybody's there, right?"
She then said that a Trump network for MAGA fans would quickly become a boring echo chamber if they had no liberals to troll.

(11,738 posts)The problem is plain and simply Trump. He is too stupid to actually have any good ideas and too arrogant to allow anyone who actually does have good ideas lead the company. He would get in the way over and over and over again until the company failed.
I also agree with the idea that any social media site that caters to Trumpers, would be a completely boring and stupid place. One thing that separates liberals from conservatives, and especially the more extreme conservatives who would follow Trump, is that conformity is essential, so as Swisher says, it would become an echo chamber. I think about DU where the expectation is that we support the Democratic Party. Most of us have similar political views on many subjects, but if you see threads on Bernie, AOC, guns, and diversity issues, there are some very lively discussions. That is because liberals are about nuance and complexity, and we are not afraid to challenge ourselves and find out information that may shift our views. There is enough difference here that does not get boring. Right wingers do not have that.
