Michigan GOP leader reveals plans to go around Whitmer for voting law overhaul

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/politics/2021/03/26/michigan-gop-chairman-plans-go-around-whitmer-voting-law-changes/7010417002/

Lansing — Michigan Republicans are crafting plans to work around Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to make changes to the battleground state's voting laws after losses in the 2020 election.

Ron Weiser, chairman of the Michigan GOP, told the North Oakland Republican Club Thursday night that the party wants to blend together bills proposed in the House and Senate for a petition initiative.

If Republicans gathered enough signatures — more than 340,000 would be needed — the GOP-controlled Legislature could approve the proposal into law without Whitmer being able to veto it.

Senate Republicans unveiled 39 bills Wednesday to require applicants for absentee ballots to present a copy of identification, overhaul large counties' canvassing boards and bar Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson from sending absentee ballot applications to voters unless they specifically request the applications.

"If that legislation is not passed by our Legislature, which I am sure it will be, but if it's not signed by the governor, then we have other plans to make sure that it becomes law before 2022," Weiser said, according to a video posted on social media.

With a minority of voter signatures, they can simply enact law without a democratically elected governor signature??

prediction is by 2026 the Senate will have between 37 and 40 (depending on the two PA seats, and Collins in ME) Democratic members MAX. That means the Rethugs will have 60 to 63 seats ans thus a supermajority.

I predict the Rethugs will have over 250 seats in the House, maybe as high as 275 or so.

And they will win the POTUS in 2024.

Why?

The SCOTUS will continue to absolutely gut current voter protection laws.

A large number of the hundreds of new voter suppression bills in 43 plus states will stand as we did not pass the new laws like HR.1 and the John Lewis Act to block it. Also, the Federal judiciary is insanely stacked with RW foot soldiers and thugs.

Partisan gerrymandering, based off Rethug massive control at state levels, and a flawed Trumpian-cooked 2020 census, will fuck us until at least 2032.

All of those things are what Manchin, Sinema and Feinstein are helping to bring about with their fetishism towards the disastrously racist Jim Crow relic known as the filibuster.

Manchin especially, as even if there was NO filibuster, he still is likely going to block a lot of the bills' protections. He will, if my series of events actually happens, go down in history as one of the most hated Democrats since the old Segregationist monsters.

As long as the rules allow it, or they can change the rules to allow it, they can set it up to fall their way.

The only "sense" involved is "we stay in control."

So even if they try to get laws enacted that way, I'm thinking it won't hold up.

If 340000 people and the legislature pass a bill, it becomes law? I know of no such process.

These are our lawmakers, FCS! It should be a felony for a lawmaker to make such an announcement, even if he says it was a "joke!" That's the goto excuse when you get caught.

It shouldn't be freedom of speech, to joke about assassination to remove someone who is an obstacle in the Congress. We have fallen really low.

Disgusting cheats. Can't win normally? Change the rules.

I don't want to live in a Republican- controlled country. I'm sick of the constant warfare, fighting, and unpleasantries. The immaturity and lack of cognition is wearing me down.

The GOP has focused on power at the State level nation-wide, and where they've achieved it, they act with impunity. Liberals cannot stop it; our votes have been sliced and diced into irrelevance.

They probably will be able to find 340K signatures in a state of 10 million. They won't even bother trying near Detroit or Ann Arbor.

3.4% of the population.
