A bipartisan group of Wisconsin lawmakers proposed a new kind of election system for Congressional races on Friday, arguing that the states existing system exacerbates partisanship and discourages compromise, NBC News reports.
Currently in Wisconsin, the winners of party primaries compete in the general election. This bill proposes switching to Final-Five voting, which would require nonpartisan, single-ballot primaries in federal races. The top five candidates would then proceed to the general election, where voters would vote on ranked-choice ballots to determine a winner through an instant runoff.

If there is a Republican incumbant, s/he is less apt to have a challenger but there could be several Democrats interested in the spot.

(53,820 posts)We have this in Vegas and many times in the lower profile races if I don't know who the Dem candidates are (haven't researched them), I end up leaving slots unmarked. I want to know straight out who is a Dem and who is a republican so I don't accidentally vote for an effin' republican.
