This should be a open and closed case.
Derek Chauvin killed George Floyd.

(3,629 posts)He wasn't just showing Floyd, he was showing the crowd his power and feeding off of their horror. That little smirk says "I know what I'm doing and there's nothing you can do to stop me."

(4,858 posts)...I didn't have the heart to last year. I thought I knew what had happened, that I got the idea. I was wrong. I'm crying right now. Throw away the key for this fucker.

(14,176 posts)because what I saw without every second was too upsetting. But today I watched the whole episode for the first time and it's worse than I imagined.....for those last few minutes, it's so obvious he's dying or already dead and that cop just looks to smug and indifferent.

(9,998 posts)But this is Amerika, and NOTHING is open and shut these days. ESPECIALLY where it concerns a police officer killing a citizen.
I've come to expect Injustice rather than Justice, so although I sincerely hope there is a price paid for Mr. Floyd's death, I fear there will be none, but I've grown to accept that this is how things are in Amerika these days.

(26,289 posts)Just watching him with his hands in his pockets and that arrogant look on his face, I think Chauvin was feeding off of the stress and anxiety of the people begging him to ease up. He is not a human being. He's a monster.

(226 posts)You can see this 9+ minutes an evolving of premeditated of murder, from police restraint to sustained attempt to murder, wouldnt even let up after multiple attempts to get a pulse, only after they brought a gurney for his lifeless body did this pos get off his neck..can only imagine the defense

(4,220 posts)the more he refused. Thats some law enforcement rage there. The cop protecting him deserved to be charged also. Murder right in front of our eyes.

(24,317 posts)the fact that they knew each other. I don't think Chauvin got up that morning intending to kill George Floyd, but I think he intended to do it when he arrived on the scene and saw it was Floyd. I think he intended to kill him as soon as he saw him. First degree murder, which he is not even charged with.
Even if he is found guilty, I bet he spends no more than a few years in prison. If he is found not guilty, I wouldn't want to be a cop in that city. It's going to get real ugly. This is Rodney King times ten.

(6,600 posts)I've been thinking about what I would say if I were being interviewed as a prospective juror & I swear to diety-of-your-choice I would say that before there's a trial I want someone the same size as Derek Chauvin to kneel on his neck exactly the way he knelt on George Floyd's neck, & then we'll see if a trial is needed.
I know that might get me in trouble & it certainly would get me tossed out of the prospective juror pool but I'm not the kind of person who keeps my mouth shut when I feel strongly about something.

(6,600 posts)It's almost like he was named for it.
"Chauvinism is the irrational belief in the superiority or dominance of one's own group or people, who are seen as strong and virtuous, while others are considered weak or unworthy."
