Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHas anyone had a POSITIVE physical side effect from the vaccine?
I had my first Pfizer shot three weeks ago and my second on Saturday. Other than a sore arm Saturday afternoon, I've had no side effects from the shots.
However, I realized this weekend that my nails are growing out! I have horrible nails that break if you look at them wrong--I've broken a nail washing my hair. But they are growing out and not breaking! This has only been in the last couple of weeks, and I wonder if it's a "side effect" of an improved immune system.
Whatever it is, I love it and hope it lasts!

(4,399 posts)I haven't had the vaccine yet, but I imagine it's a load off the mind and stress can reduce your ability to absorb nutrients from food.
I get anemia really easily unless I take iron supplements and iron deficiency definitely has an effect on your nail thickness.

(6,205 posts)nights. I get my second Pfizer 4/7. The one positive effect will be knowing I can relax even if I am sick those first 24 hours after the second shot.

(16,850 posts)that second shot, but it could have been something else, like the two mammoth-size coffee tumblers I drink every morning. Seriously, though, I had no real side effects from those Moderna shots. I encourage everybody every chance I get to go get their shots. Anyone over 16 can get a shot now in this state, so there's no reason not to do it unless you're a candy ass.

(12,438 posts)When I tell people that, they say, "I wish that would happen to me." They wouldn't really if they knew how it felt. Anyone who wants to lose weight should eat clean and exercise intensely. As horrifying as that sounds, it's worse to have fevers, chills and body aches, and no appetite.

(13,421 posts)As for a sore arm or any of the other stuff, I figured flu shots make me feel crummy too.
My neurologist teaches at a Chicago med school. I talked to him before I got the shots (Phizer) and he told me that the shot should not be seen as optional for anybody. He said he's been working with hospitalized COVID patients who have been seriously impacted neurologically. He says it's ugly and he's been worried about his own family getting vaccinated. That's how serious he was when I asked about it.
Full disclosure here, I had a really ugly response to the second shot that involved EMT's at my house at 1:30 AM, along with a screening for possible stroke. I was terrified. It all passed within a week, but I was left really weak. I hit two weeks post that second shot last Friday, and I am getting stronger every day. I'm careful about where I tell this story lest anybody think my experience portends bad things for them and decides to skip the vaccination. I trust folks here at DU to be smarter than that.
Take the shot even if it makes you feel shitty for a while.

(26,110 posts)That had to have been horribly terrifying. Was it Pfizer?

(13,421 posts)I have NEVER felt like I did about 24 hours after that second shot. I was absolutely limp from the waist down. I still had feeling in my legs but no muscle control. I fell when I got up in the night and there was NO getting up off the floor. I couldn't even sit up unassisted. My husband was freaking out, and so was I. I told him that if just the vaccine triggered that kind of response, I can't imagine what a COVID infection would have done to me.
I'm regaining strength, but this has taken a lot longer than I would have expected. Doctor (not the neurologist) said he's heard a few people say they felt weak after the vaccine, but nothing like I was dealing with. Every day is getting better.

(26,110 posts)had an extreme reaction! So glad you're getting better. And I hope the vaccine will now give you maximum coverage from this beast of a virus. I go for my second Pfizer next month. I'm not even driving myself there, since the responses are unpredictable.

(11,484 posts)I had bad reaction to second shot also but not that bad just felt sick for 4 days. Today is first day no pain or headache and walked dog! I had shot last Thursday afternoon.
I fibbed to my mom until after she had her second shot on Saturday, I knew it would scare her. She was fine.
Both hubby, kids, mom no reaction or just some arm pain only.

Hubby had a very weird side effect from his 2nd Moderna. The different effects, positive and negative, are interesting.

(15,318 posts)I've suffered from dry skin my whole life. I got my first Pfizer last week and noticed my skin is softer and has a glow. It's in the best condition it's ever been. I thought maybe it was just a coincidence. Maybe I've been drinking more water than usual or something. But maybe it is the vaccine.

(58,693 posts)we're both fully vaccinated, thanks to the VA Medical System. I'm only about 10 days in, his 2nd shot was almost 3 weeks ago.
But we hooked up for breakfast, and on my way out of his house after dropping him off, I just said fuck it and shook his hand.
Felt good.
