NEW ORLEANS As we see vaccine appointment times opening up and shorter lines at mass vaccine sites, we wanted to look into who is having concerns about getting a COVID shot and why.
The non-profit Kaiser Family Foundation, which focuses on national health issues and policy, has a brand new survey on vaccine hesitancy.

(63,883 posts)and ignorant too. Now young people are being brought into ER's. Why don't people get it??? If your own Dr. gets his vaccine wouldn't that tell you it's safe????

(205,552 posts)I asked him why and he said his daughter is a nurse at the hospital and she doesn't plan to be vaccinated and he gets his medical advice from her.

Rhiannon12866
(205,552 posts)If she's on the front lines, currently actively working at the hospital (where there are current active covid cases), how can she be a denier?? And we know that the elderly are especially at risk.
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)Shameful, really!
Rhiannon12866
(205,552 posts)But he left that behind long ago. I don't know the daughter, just that she often gets on his nerves, LOL. But he takes it for granted that, with her training, she knows more about medical issues than he does.

(205,552 posts)But he's far from stupid. I just can't imagine how anyone at all in this country could still ignore the devastating covid news we hear every day and the frightening numbers.

(205,552 posts)Was the first I knew to be vaccinated - as a front line worker. And she was very grateful to get it, drove an hour downstate to a major hospital to get the Pfizer vaccine. She may not work directly with covid patients, but at the hospital she could be exposed despite all her required PPE. I couldn't imagine anyone working at a hospital with patients wouldn't be mandated. They wouldn't just be in danger of getting the virus, but also of transmitting it to other patients and family members.

(57,073 posts)About 1/3 of front line med workers here aren't getting vax, last I saw, but this is red hellhole TN, so there is that. Really irresponsible!

(57,073 posts)Somehow, their perceived "right" to not mask or vax is more important then others' right to life. Oh, the irony...
Rhiannon12866
(205,552 posts)If you expect to go anywhere, groceries, pharmacies, gas stations, banks, you must be wearing a mask to be allowed inside. And there are lines on floors indicating proper distancing and many stores and pharmacies have one way aisles.
And the situation is impossible to ignore even if you go nowhere, with Governor Cuomo's informational updates and there are now numerous vaccine sites right in this area - not only pharmacies, but a town site just opened at the local mall (former Sears store) and a county site is also available at a large health center.
And I just heard a promo on TV from a nurse's association on how they're advocating for better staffing. They're required to wear PPE and certainly should be required to be vaccinated! They're putting patients and everyone they encounter in danger otherwise.

And I'm hoping that my dentist's hygienist qualifies by now. My dentist was fully vaccinated a long time ago as a front line worker, but her hygienist who certainly gets closer than most doctors, wasn't qualified yet - especially since she's under 30! They have always worn masks and gowns, even before this pandemic, but the last time I saw my dentist she was telling me about how many people who were infected that she's known!
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)Scary stuff! Wonder why hygenist isn't considered front line & eligible?

I wasn't really anticipating it given the low odds, but I was still thinking, "Please don't be my sister!" before I saw the video.
My evangelical sister wears masks and she got vaccinated (both shots) as soon as possible for her, though, so at least she's not as nutty as some of them out there. She's just the biggest religious nut in my particular family.

She's definitely not one of the mean ones, who I've observed many times out there.

(21,596 posts)I propose that the federal government pay the anti-vaccine people to get vaccinated. Pay $200 for getting a J&J or $100 per vaccine for Pfizer or Moderna. The Covidiots will complain, but will do it to get the money.

You and/or your child can sit on this critter for a photo op. They also have exhibits showing people and dinosaurs living together. They actually have quite a bit of dinosaur stuff, according to their (completely insane) website.
I believe the working theory is that the dinosaurs were created at the same tme as all the other animals, but they died in the Flood. Or something like that. I'm not up on all the details.

I have found that a lot of my African American friends are worried about it because it's come out so quickly.
What I'm doing is letting them and others who are skeptical know how I react the shot once I get it. I have already been talking about another family member and her shot with her permission. She had a sore arm, but she's okay.

She is excited to be getting her first shot this Friday. I think she will be getting Moderna. She lives in one of those senior homes and is able to take care of herself and still drives.
