Gov. Abbot who uses a wheelchair expected to sign bill against drive-thru voting

Drive-thru voting helps people with disabilities vote. The Governor of Texas, who uses a wheelchair, is expected to sign the bill that bans it.

The Texas Senate just voted to limit Texans' voting options. Senate Bill 7, a GOP priority, would limit early voting hours, prohibit drive-thru voting and bar local election officials from proactively sending vote-by-mail applications.

Vote early or by mail. Make them all stand in line on election day.

He became a paraplegic in his college years when a rotted tree fell on him jogging. He sued the property owner and landscaping company and reaped something like $15M. The numbers and his condition might be "off" but somebody will be sure to correct.

The point being, that when he went into politics one of his first initiatives was to push through putting a cap on how much anybody could sue for, $250K or some such. Nobody else except him could get those millions.

That's what he's about, not new for him.

.. On July 14, 1984, at age 26, Abbott was paralyzed below the waist when an oak tree fell on him while he was jogging following a storm. He had two steel rods implanted in his spine, underwent extensive rehabilitation at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston and has used a wheelchair ever since.

He sued the homeowner and a tree service company, resulting in an insurance settlement that provides him with lump sum payments every three years until 2022 along with monthly payments for life; both are adjusted "to keep up with the rising cost of living".

As of August 2013, the monthly payment amount was US$14,000. Abbott said he had relied on the money to help him pay for nearly three decades of medical expenses and other costs. Abbott went into private practice, working for Butler and Binion, LLP between 1984 and 1992...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Abbott

Nothing will make you more cynical than considering just how unaware and cruel that man is. Narrow-minded and vindictive, he’s pretty sure that he’s better than everyone else — thinks he’s entitled to harm others, because blessed are the wrathful and greedy... or something like that.

After he signs the bill, he won’t have to look into the eyes of a Texan born with with a disability, but I will. Only gives me more resolve to help those around me survive, thrive, and vote.
