A day after the Democratic president unveiled his "American Jobs Plan" in Pittsburgh, the Senate's top Republican said Biden has no public mandate for the proposal and predicted that Republicans would not support it. Biden's plan combines spending on roads and bridges with climate change initiatives and human services like elder care.
"I'm going to fight them every step of the way, because I think this is the wrong prescription for America," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said. "That package that they're putting together now, as much as we would like to address infrastructure, is not going to get support from our side," McConnell added.
Without Republican support, Democrats might have to resort to a parliamentary procedure that would enable it to pass the 100-seat Senate with a simple majority vote rather than the 60 votes needed to advance most legislation. However, that could require them to drop elements that do not affect taxes and spending, such as provisions that would make it easier for workers to organize labor unions.

(5,591 posts)Issue that actually helps the country and the people.
We are not dealing with patriots, or public servants in any form.
They must be treated as domestic terrorists. And stopped without partisan respect.
Its obvious they only serve their own obsessions with control, power and greed.
McConnell is a proud, arrogant enemy of democracy.
This should not even be up for debate.

(13,421 posts)If Mitch doesn't want infrastructure help and job creation for KY then don't GIVE them anything. See how much KY voters support that.
I do realize it doesn't work that way in reality, but I do get tired of the BS Mitch and Rand spew.

(19,962 posts)She said that it's great, now Dems don't have to waste time being seen to work in a bipartisanship manner, only to ultimately waste time when they wouldn't get one Republican vote anyway.

McTurtle would oppose it because the time frame was too vague and the cost too high, and every Republican Senator would vote with him.
