I see right wingers occasionally attempting to claim that Kennedy would have been a conservative based on the fact he wanted lower tax rates.
My response is always 'really? Find me a conservative who supports these tax rates
'
In January 1963, Kennedy presented Congress with a tax proposal that would reduce the top marginal tax rate from 91 percent to 65 percent, and lower the corporate tax rate from 52 percent to 47 percent
And I usually end with 'Hey if you guys want to support a 65% tax rate Bring it on!!!'

(65,081 posts)When those rates hit, a much higher % of taxpayers actually paid part of their income at the highest rate.
It definitely was not designed to REDUCE revenues, like the "drown it in a bathtub" morons want.

(6,185 posts)If Kennedy was conservative at 65%, then Biden would have to be considered a super right wing lunatic at 28%.
But he's just trying to begin to fix what the real super right wing lunatics, Trump and McConnell, did to set the rate at 23% in December of 2017.
