Authorities: Infant rescued from U.S.-Mexico border after smugglers threw child out of raft

ROMA, Texas (Gray News) - Authorities in Texas announced a 6-month-old girl was rescued from the Rio Grande after being thrown out of a raft by smugglers.

Texas Rangers worked with U.S. Border Patrol to bring the infant back to land on March 16, according to a Facebook post from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Authorities also said the child’s mother had been assaulted by smugglers in Mexico, and she suffered a broken leg as a result.

Those particular coyotes sound like they are heartless and vicious. There are stories about migrants being assaulted at every stage of the journey from all parts of Mexico and Central and South America, which dispels the myth that right wingers love to throw out there that those people are just coming for the heck of it, to steal our jobs and mooch off of the system.

What sane person would risk what that poor woman did in trying to come across the border with her infant. What must their lives have been like to warrant making that choice.

Right wingers don't care. They see the issue ONLY as "invaders" coming to destroy their society. When there is no SANE and HUMANE immigration policy, which includes helping the people in those countries IN those countries to have a better life; this is what you are going to get.

For people who say, "The US isn't responsible for taking care of the people of other countries" YES, YES we are, because in many if not most instances, the US has been interfering in the economic and political development of those countries since the 1800's after they threw off their Colonial governments. The saying, "you break it, you buy it" is very relevant here because we continue to "break" those countries, often installing right wing governments because they are happy to help US corporations exploit labor. We prop up the power of cartels with our stupid drug policies. Just because Biden is treating people with more compassion doesn't mean the floodgates are open. They come regardless because the hell they are leaving is worse than the dangers in their journey. They are leaving their friends, families, culture, and language, simply to survive.
