Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI don't have thousands of posts, but still, I have to thank the DU community.
I am a New Yorker living in what my husband calls "Redneckistan." Sorry, I hate the term "redneck" because I think it's rude, but still, he's not all that wrong about the culture here. It's Southern Baptist, it's Liberty University, it's racist, and it's Republican/Teabagger/Libertarian hell.
If I didn't have this place to run to, to read others' posts and get information, I'd frankly be more upset and crazy than I am now. So, whether you've posted twice or thousands of times, thank you, fellow DUers, for the solidarity and support and sanity. For those of us living in places where we are the minority, it's a godsend!

(19,841 posts)TRY to pity these brainwashed fearful people. I try to go out of my way to be nice to them (because it's very clear I'm not one of them)...avoid politics, just be as kind as you can. It is like being an ambassador to a foreign land to go to Teabag Zone, the way this country has become so polarized.
Yes DU can be a lifeline. I live in a blue area but I still feel isolated at times...because people are so wary of each other and insular these days. And with the mainstream media the way it is...we need a place where we can talk and try to make sense of it. I think it will get crazier before it gets better with this election.

(113,306 posts)DU has helped keep me sane throughout the insanity of the bush years and the last four years of teabaggers and ultra-reichwing nutbars.
