General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSince we have had two Moderna shots, we are starting to begin to commence to get ready to maybe
some time take a road trip. But, our routes and destinations are seriously limited.
We don't really want to even stop in states like Tennessee which just passed unlimited no-permit-required firearm carry laws.
We don't want to visit most states which are GOP dominated, especially those like Florida that have "stand your ground" statutes which essentially mean that if it is just me and one of "them" out along the interstate and they don't like my bumper stickers, they can just insist that I assaulted them and shoot me dead.
In general, we don't want to contribute to the economy of any state that voted for Trump.
So, where to go? ( Some day, hopefully. )

(25,916 posts)The weather is almost always good. Plenty of museums everywhere. One I'm hoping to get to, preferably when My Son The Astronomer is visiting me, is Museum of Space History in Alamagordo. We've already been to the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History in Albuquerque. Staying with the science theme, there's the VLA, Very Large Array of radio telescopes near Socorro and The Bradbury Museum in Los Alamos.
Lots of other standard museums, of course. Plus green chile cheeseburgers. And lots and lots of Native American things to see and do, including the Acoma Pueblo, some 60 miles west of Albuquerque, and the 19 Pueblos Museum in Albuquerque itself.
Really, this is a wonderful state and has an amazing amount of things to see and do. My brief list has barely scratched the surface.
We have a Democratic Governor, a Democratic state legislature, and are doing the very best of any state at getting people vaccinated.
You'd need a really good excuse not to come here.

(10,926 posts)The Pacific Coast is beautiful from Oregon all the way down through Big Sur. The road through Big Sur reopens at the end of the month. California is doing well with vaccines and is planning to lift most restrictions by mid-June.
Or you could do a number of different wine regions, we also got mountains, redwoods, beaches, etc.
