(2,191 posts)I got my first shot this week, but I was up at midnight for several nights trying to get an appointment.
There are red parts of the state, but thankfully they're less populated.

(20,890 posts)trying to help a "poor" person with no transportation, no drivers license and no insurance find a place near them to get vaccinated...
I understand why certain segments of the population haven't been vaccinated yet. For many those walk in clinics are your only chance because the online forms are draconian. And if you don't live near one and can't drive or you work two jobs or have kids ... I don't get why they make it so hard to sign up for the shot. Even the hospital portal demanded insurance information to use their portal.

(9,121 posts)I've already had my first shot, but right afterwards I started getting texts and voice mails like crazy from the various places I had signed up. Where I did finally get mine (Sonoma County), they had hundreds of appointments still available.
I'd recommend looking farther afield from metro areas if you're wanting it sooner. The more rural counties seem to be running surpluses. I know Solano County has been looking for anyone they could find this week. I got four different texts and two e-mails for same-day available appointments at the fairgrounds.
Keep looking.

Schools are partially opening on Monday in San Diego. I am glad I'm not teaching anymore. I got sick all the time in the elementary classroom environment and that's why I had to leave altogether.

(9,121 posts)Since we both work from home, we've been enlisted as part-time tutors for nephews. I almost resent having to relearn trigonometry. But even with vaccination, I've not heard any plans to change the school situation before fall around here.
My vaccination location was about an hour drive from home, and I'll have to go back to the same location for the second. A little bit of a bother, but worth it. My partner got his in January from work (health care). He had to drive five whole minutes for it. I've been side-eyeing him all week.

Please note, that number was updated Saturday morning. I'm sure a lot of doses were given during the day.
The LA Times is saying that 22 million doses have been distributed across the state, with 14.4 million people receiving at least one dose. That would indicate that about 7.6 million people have received both shots.

I have 2 grandchildren, a son, and other family and friends back home in CA, and am so grateful that the COVID rate for all of my loved ones is very low. Although I believe it is probable that my son and his family had it in Jan020, before it was a thing.

(25,902 posts)a bunch of different places, and isn't it truly magnificent to live somewhere you love?
Every time I think about posting what a shithole I think some particular state is, I then read something, often here on DU, by someone who lives there and just loves it. So I try very hard not to make blanket comments about any one state. I like to say that we live in a wonderful country with 50 wonderful states. The ones I think are great are ones others wouldn't move to on a bet. Isn't it nice that we all are so different?
What's bad is if you live somewhere you don't like, but have no good option of relocating.

I really think that Newsom will beat the recall. People won't vote to throw him out when life is returning to normal.

(100,104 posts)A lot of this shit comes from within too. Literally every time we have a democratic governor there's almost always a recall. Conservatives here hate that they are a minority in this state.

(10,920 posts)I'd have to hunt around for when that was, but here's an archive of when it was #2 worst after #1 Tennessee on December 21:
https://web.archive.org/web/20201221004636/https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html
The lesson being that these things do swing radically. I've been watching the rankings almost daily for many months, especially my home state of Minnesota. And California where my sister and her family live.
Right now Michigan and the northeast are the nation's hot spots
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html
Daily new cases per 100,000 population, 7 day moving average (7dma)
#1 Michigan: 76
#2 New Jersey: 44

#4 New York: 38
#5 Pennsylvania: 35
#6 Minnesota: 35
#7 Delaware: 32
#8 New Hampshire: 31
#9 Connecticut: 31
#10 Massachusetts: 30
#11 Florida: 27
#12 Colorado: 26

My cousins, my mom, ex, his family, my friends, all vaccinated. I am from CA so know a lot that live there and a lot of FB friends live there all vaccinated.
The only one I know who is not is my granddaughter who is pregnant and due in a few weeks. She is waiting until after baby is born.

(5,803 posts)You are in line.
The vaccine will be available to all 16 and up in California in four days. Some counties have already opened up for this demographic, like Los Angeles.
70 percent of our seniors have received at least one dose of vaccine. The most vulnerable wouldnt be safe if there was no line.
Im sorry you havent got yours yet. I know its crazy stressful waiting.
Johonny
(20,890 posts)where they claim everyone they know in California has got it here. It's silly. The majority of the 16+ population isn't vaccinated. I know countless people not. Mostly they are poor. or working class. As this map shows, the wealthier parts of LA are ahead of the poor parts in vaccination. They've tried to fix this, but the vaccine queue loopholes for the poor were mostly used by the wealthy to jump the queue. It's not just conservative LA, it's places like Compton that are way behind.
