(3,417 posts)Are you SO jaded that you have rejected the possibility that ANY police officers are human beings with empathy and respect for Muslim citizens?
I refuse to live in an angry world THAT small.
There are awful cops that must be weeded out. I believe it to be a minority of those wearing badges. Painting them all with the broad brush of the murderous few is unfair and unproductive.

(19,348 posts)Their leadership supported spying on Muslims in the wake of 9/11 and still do.

(7,447 posts)Yeah, they aren't all monsters...but if there's 1 bad cop, and 9 good cops who protect and ignore the 1 bad cop, then there's actually 10 bad cops.

(7,418 posts)"All cops are bastards." All cops. Every last one of them.
Cops like the legendary Frank Serpico who was so sick of the corruption he saw around him that he risked his own life to call it out. A bastard because he had a badge.
All cops, like a personal friend who was so sick of being ostracized by colleagues -- by black cops because he was white and alienated by white good ol' boys because he was from Chicago -- that he left patrol and went to work in Internal Affairs so he could help keep them in line. He's a bastard.
All cops like one I know who brought Klan members to justice for killing an innocent Black man. He's a bastard, too.
Or the cop I know who solved murders like the owner of a fast food chain who hired a hit man to kill his wife and almost got away with it.
Or the cops who tracked down the scumbag who went home from a dive bar with a gay man just so he could stab him to death. They're bastards, too.
All cops. All bastards. Every last one.
That's the kind of overly simplified denial of human nuance and complexity upon which bigotry and prejudice are built. And it appears to be growing.
