Their concept of "free speech" simply means that they can say what they want without criticism. They have been used to being able to say horrible things without any significant consequences. They feel, now that their viewpoint is being challenged that it is somehow, censorship or oppression.

They either have no insight or they do not care that their stance is hypocritical because they feel entitled to be in control of society.
