(4,575 posts)so the cops retaliate with fucking tanks. How much longer are we going to have to play this out night after night until people get it?

(9,874 posts)In NYC, for example, it is 20 years and out.
Cops sometimes stay on to increase their pensions. For instance, in some jurisdictions a cop gets 60% of his/her last year's pay at 25 years but if they stay on they get 2% per year extra up to 30 years.

(53,792 posts)Do you have any idea how that sounds? And the city manager was in charge of the police dept., not the mayor.

(11,317 posts)City manager is/was in charge of the police department. He's been fired. Mayor (ostensibly) would appear to be stepping up. Not sure if this would be a good time for a 'no one in charge' scenario.

(32,712 posts)But maybe that's just me.
It's not like the entire incident isn't on video.
The question in the jurors' minds will be whether she was only pretending to be confused when she yelled "taser."
Personally, I think it was premeditated murder and her dry resignation letter, which seems to blame protesters for her decision to resign, doesn't help.

(16,200 posts)I have also studied similar accidents from aircraft pilots, so this sort of mistake does happen in high stress events. The brain can shut out even obvious clues or chimes as the person gets tunnel vision - in this case probably looking for a gun to come out from beneath a seat.

(32,712 posts)You reach for a gun. So there's that...
My conclusion is based on the heavy infiltration of white supremacists in police departments across the country. I'm pretty sure they're all angry right now and expressing as much in their secret chats. They are angry and frustrated by the idea of being held accountable and forced to treat black people with dignity and respect.
The proximity to where chauvin's trial is taking place is also notable, IMO.

(16,200 posts)Her statements and reaction indicate it was a mistake. And like I pointed out earlier, it has happened to highly trained pilots during emergencies.

(4,575 posts)with her cop hubby who has that wacko thin blue line skull photo on his Facebook page. He retired and went to work in the private sector. Her base pay was $85,600 where the average for other city employees was like $25,000.
