Both resign: Brooklyn Center police chief & officer who shot and killed Daunte

Brooklyn Center police Chief Tim Gannon and Kimberly Potter, the police officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright during a traffic stop Sunday, have both resigned from the department.

Mayor Mike Elliott announced the chief's resignation during a news conference at City Hall Tuesday afternoon.

In a letter to city officials earlier in the day, Potter wrote that she was resigning effective immediately, according to a statement from Law Enforcement Labor Services, the state's largest public safety labor union.

Elliott told reporters Tuesday that city officials did not ask Potter to resign.

"That was a decision she made," he said.

That's one thing nobody ever mentions that I always wonder about when one of these cops loses his/her job because of a shooting. When a cop is fired after a shooting, does s/he also lose his/her pension and other accumulated job benefits? Did Potter keep her pension and benefits because she resigned before they had a chance to fire her? Is that why she resigned rather than waiting to be fired? Do U.S. representatives lose their pension and benefits when they are involuntarily terminated from their seat in Congress? Will that happen to Matt Gaetz? Will it happen to President Orange Con Man (I won't say his name) if he is prosecuted and convicted of anything? Why is it that I never hear any discussion of these questions? Is it because they are considered private personnel matters and not within the arena of the public's right to know?

Losing one's job isn't nearly enough for causing someone else to lose their life.
