I'm fully vaxxed and I'm a young(er) low(er) risk individual in a blue area of a red region with only local mask mandates currently in place and low(er) spead compared to MI, I don't feel comfortable quite yet but I know a few fully vaxxed boomer centrist leaning Dems (I think I'm further to the left than them) who have been out a few times since they've been fully vaxxed and with apporval from their non-epidemiologist primary care providers, if you don't, when will you feel comfortable? think I'll wait until at least the staff is fully vaxxed

(115,744 posts)When he goes I'll go. I've ventured out to a grocery store, a Walgreens and a garden center since I was vaccinated but I still don't feel comfortable at the idea of spending time indoors with unmasked people.

(1,495 posts)I'm definitely not comfortable eating in a restaurant right now. I'm high risk with 3 co-morbidities. Plus I was a waitress for 10 years and I know how flu, colds, stomach bugs spread in a restaurant. I swear I was sick 90% of the time with every virus possible the entire time I was waitressing.

If its really crowded, I would pass.

(1,476 posts)A friend owns a Chinese restaurant. We went at 14:00 and it was very empty. Staff all wore masks. They got a $50 tip too!

(24,303 posts)If they are operating at limited capacity, I guess I must be okay with it after being vaccinated because I did it before I was vaccinated.

(16,398 posts)However if there was a scenario where it might be possible to dine indoors in a mostly empty restaurant i might consider it. But certainly not at peak times. But then again who wants to eat dinner at 5 in the afternoon or lunch at 11 am or 3 in the afternoon. More likely to just stick with takeout.

(6,115 posts)All restaurant staff are fully vaccinated, I believe the indoors patrons were all also vaccinated. Some dining outside were probably not.

(6,115 posts)Monday is half price on all bottles of wine. I know most of the regulars. All of us inside confirmed our statuses with each other; our ages roughly 60-90. From what I could hear, people not fully vaccinated were requesting outside seating.

(6,115 posts)The staffs of most of the restaurants around here are fully vaccinated or soon will be. Still wearing masks and following best practices.
While this is generally true around Chapel Hill, it is not so in much of rural NC.

(6,115 posts)I know the owners and many staff members at my Monday restaurant. Have been following their progress getting everyone vaccinated. The last couple of people in the back had just gotten their second shots, but hadn't waited by their full second two weeks.
Where it were just an assumption, I would still only eat outside.

(10,208 posts)The place was limiting how many people were there and everyone wore masks when not seated at their table. I felt comfortable but would want to go somewhere crowded or with people standing around.
I also spent the night at a hostel. I had a private room, the dorm next to me was empty. Not sure if they were even putting people in those. Very few people there.

(4,146 posts)and never on the weekends. It is possible to dine out socially distanced...but you have to be an early bird so there aren't many people around

(21,795 posts)For now, since we're getting warmer weather, I'll still prefer to dine outdoors.
Fortunately, some of my favorite spots have roof gardens and outdoor beer gardens.

(509 posts)I will takeout though. Besides, I do a lot of cooking at home anyway so my life isn't as dependent on dining at restaurants as others. Thank God, my mama taught me how to cook!

What was the point of getting fully vaccinated if you're just going to continue to hide in your burrow?

(14,155 posts)And seat yourself upwind from the other patrons. So you are not breathing the air exhaled by the other people eating there outdoors.
With the new strains and variants we must remain vigilant. When the CDC says no more mask required by those vaccinated,... then we finally know we can relax.

(27,995 posts)Four of us, all 2+ weeks past our second vaccines went out for Mexican food, our first time inside a restaurant in 13 months.
The staff all wore masks and the restaurant asked patrons to wear a mask until you're seated. And they had reduced capacity, seating people in every other table or booth with plexiglass partitions between booths.
We had a Wonderful meal and drinks and a great time! It was wonderful to eat out and to feel "normal" again! We're planning to go out again this weekend.

Will be fine with eating outside in a restaurant that has an outside area, though.

(10,476 posts)Masks in, masks when leaving, waitstaff all wearing them. I feel fine with this setup.

(34,076 posts)But I'm not comfortable, and generally we will only eat in outdoor locations for the foreseeable future. (We're both fully vaccinated, the restaurant was nearly empty, and I wore my mask except when I was actively eating.)
It wasn't quite warm enough for the outdoor locations to be open yet.
When I will be comfortable is (1) when there are fewer than 50 cases /100,000 in the county in which I'm dining and/or (2) when there is a 70-80% vaccination rate in the county in whch I'm dining. Until then - eating out indoors will be limited to eating with my spouse (and other fully vaccinated individuals) on special occasions at her request. The next will likely be our anniversary in September (at which it will likely stlll be warm enough to eat outdoors), then after that her birthday next April.

(4,673 posts)time last week and it was such an amazing, welcome event after the last long 13.5 months. No mask at all once at the table. So wonderful.
Since Im on the Central CA coast where the weather is great, it doesnt rain, and there are so many great outdoor choices, its easy to avoid indoors and not an issue. That said, because of being in a high-risk group, Id probably avoid indoors anyway until a greater % has been vaccinated and theres more data on variants.

(16,248 posts)The staff up front might have masks..what about the preps n cooks/chefs. Nope.. Ive become very comfortable at home. And getting better at it. Ive had my first Moderna shot..2nd in two weeks n even then.. my niece is complaining..she just st turned 40.. stay home for just a while little longer is an eternity... just what did the people do in the 1918-1920s during the pandemic? We seem to have little patience for anything anymore

(11,477 posts)Masks were off because we were eating and a girl sneezed twice few tables down. They had up booth plexiglass dividers but I lost feeling good about the evening after that.
Hubby and I decided to only eat outside after that until cases way down. We ate lunch yesterday outside and loved it.

(1,287 posts)But, now that better weather is here I will likely eat outside every once in a blue moon.
I am looking forward to entertaining outside on my patio with our friend group who have all been vaccinated.

(10,434 posts)I just like it better in nice weather. Last fall, I went back to a really good Italian restaurant in Salina KS on a work trip. I was going to get something to take back to the hotel, but they had put a few tables on part of the sidewalk so I ate there. I was the only one outside, indoors was about 50%. It was one of the rare wind-free days in KS, so even without the risk I still would have wanted to sit outside. Afterward, when I walked my dog around downtown, the other nice restaurant also had no one sitting outdoors, but the bar was packed with no one wearing a mask. This was last Sept, and that's a good example of Kansas stupidity.
I've only been to two indoor places since last March. Both times were in rural areas last summer shortly after restaurants reopened and before covid had started spreading in those small towns. High-ceiling places, and only two other tables being used.
I got my shot March 8, but I still wouldn't go to any crowded place, restaurant or anything. I'd only eat indoors in poor weather, and if there were few others there.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,862 posts)has done an excellent job of closing down as needed and limiting restaurant seating. Right now we're up to 75% of capacity. As it warms up, I will tend to prefer to eat outdoors, but by midsummer I think I'll be fine inside even at full capacity.
Oh, and this state is so far the best in actually vaccinating people.
Karma13612
(4,552 posts)Hubby (73) and I (67) have been going to indoor dining restaurants for some time now. We are now both fully vaccinated including the post 2 week wait period, as of March end.
We mask up and wash hands. We stayed away from any restaurants where the staff did not wear masks, before we were vaccinated.
It might sound cavalier but we know the risks, limited the dining to places with high standards reflecting COVID practices and generally stay away from crowds otherwise.
As I said, life is short.
I was more scared way back when it all started when I did the food shopping alone, and masked up, gloved up and wore an outer coat that stayed in the car between shopping trips. A year ago we wouldnt dream of venturing other than to the food store. Back in the early days we even washed all the items I purchased using a mild chlorox solution. We had a little cleaning station in an outside gazebo next to the house. This was in cold Northern New York where the temps were in the 20s and windy. I wont forget how many times I stood outside my car cleaning my bare hands with alcohol gel before getting in the car to drive to the next store or back home. Gawd it was cold.
And the stress and fear of bringing the virus home to my older husband. Or contracting it myself.
We havent gotten lax, weve just realized that taking proper steps and precautions have proven to be useful and effective.
We all have to make our own decisions. So far, so good.

(10,137 posts)Just before the local lockdown began, I had some surgery. I promised myself that when I was well enough to walk to a local expensive-but-gosh-they-are-good restaurant I would treat myself and my husband to a nice dinner. Then the county shut everything down. I feel I'm owed - but if I can wait a year plus another few months won't make much difference.

(14,915 posts)I've eaten outside dining with my sister but it was around ? 5-6 months before we even did that. So we've eaten outside several times till it got too cold.
We were able to go out comfortably on my birthday because it was an unexpected 60°F to eat outside.
She says she might dine indoors, not me not yet. Numbers need to be much better.
I'll happily dine out once in a while as long as protocols are followed.

(15,286 posts)Have been going out to eat all along with no problems. Usually go during off-peak hours and dine alfresco when the weather's been nice, but no problems with indoor dining either.
