I got it nearly three weeks ago. About four days ago I started having serious pain in my right leg. Honestly, I cannot walk more than 15 feet without severe pain. Truly excruciating. Not sure if there's a connection. It's possible that since I did have a serious heart attack back in December, that might possibly be the real thing here. Who knows? Luckily for me I have an appointment with my PCP tomorrow afternoon, and I will explain to her what's going on. Hopefully, this will all be resolved.
In normal times I am the healthiest person I know, and I hope that remain the same through all of this.

(25,895 posts)It may be important to know I had a very serious heart attack right before Christmas. Perhaps that's the essential thing here.
I will say that I cannot walk more than twenty feet or so without excruciating pain. I will give an update after my PCP appointment tomorrow. It was set up a couple of weeks ago, so I saw no reason to make it happen any earlier.
It's highly probable that my heart attack in December is more important than my J&J vaccine. No matter what, I'm very happy to have gotten the vaccine. Honestly, I'd have been happy with any of them. While I am normally an annoyingly healthy person, and I cheerfully assume the best of all possible outcomes, I hope everything turns out well.
Honestly, I view myself as a very healthy person, and assume all will be well.

(16,856 posts)PO needs to go to the hospital immediately. Sounds like it could be a clot in that leg, and if it moves to his heart, it'll all be over.

(25,895 posts)Yes, I have excruciating pain in my leg, but I honestly have no sense of urgency about seeking medical care. Of course, I'm a person who was having a heart attack for some twelve hours before I went to the local ER for it. I'm not the best example of how to handle a medical crisis, I know.
And to think, my mother was a nurse.
If I sit, my leg does not hurt. Honestly. Does that help?

Seriously, although the onset of your leg pain is outside the window of time associated with the clot problems of the J&J vaccine and you are much older than the women who had the clots, you are better off being seen as soon as possible.
I will tell you that the night before my second Moderna shot I got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. My knee replacement knee started to hurt-- to swell-- and within minutes was so painful I couldn't walk. It was not hot or red, which are often additional symptoms of clots. Once I got to my cane, which I keep in the umbrella stand by the front door, I was able to walk. I immediately started icing it and kept it up for hours until it was time to go for my second shot. As my mobility increased and pain subsided, I did not believe it to be a clot.
Then the same damn thing happened 12 days after my second shot. Ice and Aleve ( to reduce inflammation) started to reduce the pain almost immediately.
Joint and muscle pain are common side effects of all the vaccines. My youngest son's partner went to the ER last Friday with excruciating back pain, four days after his second Moderna. He feared he had a slipped disc. X-rays showed nothing. It was muscle inflammation.
I will tell you I considered getting myself to the ER in the middle of the night the first time my knee ballooned up, but decided not to go. It has been almost four years since my knee replacement and during all that time I've never had such an immediate onset of pain and stiffness for no reason. I think it was related to the vaccines.
Hope you're ok. Let us know.

(25,895 posts)The six cases of blood clots have apparently been cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, clots that form in veins that drain blood from the brain. But one of the symptoms listed is leg pain, which I absolutely have. And it started some two weeks after the shot. But no swelling at all.
There's strong possibility this is connected to my heart attack of last December, rather than the vaccine.
I already had an appointment with my PCP for this afternoon.

(8,761 posts)Saying shots messed up their periods and post menopausal women suddenly getting periods again. Many had prolonged heavy bleeding for weeks or more. Now that they have paused the J & J vaccine, I read they might just recommend it for older folks like Astra Zeneca did with their vaccine. Astra Zeneca is having the same problem with blood clots and they are similar vaccines.

(9,460 posts)Can COVID-19 vaccine impact your menstrual cycle? Doctors address side-effects concerns
Dr. Viray: 'Thats just not how these vaccines work'
RICHMOND, Va. -- Hundreds of women have taken to social media to document their experience with a change in their menstrual cycle following their COVID vaccine.
In a thread started by University of Illinois Associate Professor, Dr. Kate Clancy, some said they noticed more cramping, heavier bleeding, or other irregularities.
Dr. Melissa Viray, Deputy Director for the Richmond City and Henrico County Health Districts said she does not believe theres a physiologic involvement between the vaccine and a woman's menstrual cycle, and would not classify it as a side-effect of the COVID vaccine.
"Thats just not how these vaccines work -- so Id be very surprised," said Dr. Viray.
However, Dr. Viray did say the vaccine could put stress on the body since its teaching your immune system to fight the COVID virus.

(9,460 posts)I got the J&J three weeks ago. My husband got his the same day. It will be three weeks post J&J for our daughter-in-law tomorrow. Our son, daughter, and son-in-law are just at 2 weeks post J&J. I keep hearing different timelines for when we should be past the point of concern relating to clots, anywhere from two to eight weeks post shot. I'm a worrier so I'll just wait until we've all passed the eight week point. Then I'll find something else to worry about. During that time I will keep reminding myself that the risk of getting Covid and having blood clots from it far outweigh the risk from the vaccination.

(25,895 posts)The good news is I don't have any blood clots in my leg. The bad news is that no one seems to have a clue what's going on.
I got some x-rays today, then a doppler scan. Haven't heard what the x-rays show, but the doppler was clear for x-rays.

Anything you can do to alleviate the pain and get some rest?

(25,895 posts)X-rays were taken, then I was sent to an imaging center for a doppler thing to look for blood clots. The good news is I have no blood clots. The bad news is that no one can figure out why I'm having this weird pain. And it's excruciating if I stand for more than two minutes or try to walk more than ten steps.

(9,460 posts)I know a lot of people don't trust chiropractors but I know for a fact my dad was helped by one when his back was so bad that he couldn't tie his own shoes and had to literally roll out of bed to get up. I've known other people who have been helped by them too. Just a thought.

(25,895 posts)Maybe some kind of weird thing with my spine, sending the nerve pain to those three separate places. Makes sense to me.
I have not ever been to a chiropractor myself, but I tend to have warm and fuzzy feelings for them.

(9,460 posts)But as I said before, my dad was helped by going and he didn't have to take drugs of any kind. So it was a definite win for him. He was in his 40s at the time. He went several times and then he was fine and didn't have that issue again. He was 103 when he died.

Your soul is a chosen landscape
Where charming masquerades and dancers are promenading,
Playing the lute and dancing, and almost
Sad beneath their fantastic disguises.
While singing in a minor key
Of victorious love, and the pleasant life
They seem not to believe in their own happiness
And their song blends with the light of the moon,
With the sad and beautiful light of the moon,
Which sets the birds in the trees dreaming,
And makes the fountains sob with ecstasy,
The slender water streams among the marble statues.

Adrift! A little boat adrift!

Will no one guide a little boat

Just as the dusk was brown
One little boat gave up its strife
And gurgled down and down.
So angels sayon yesterday
Just as the dawn was red
One little boato'erspent with gales
Retrimmed its mastsredecked its sails
And shotexultant on!

(25,895 posts)The x-rays show nothing. Well, other than what my be expected from being 72 years old, but no breaks, nothing like that.
Which again, is good, but my leg still hurts like hell.
In many ways I should not complain much, because almost my entire life I have been extraordinarily healthy, and I hope I've appreciated that health as much as I should have.
