Florida House Passes Bill ... Allowing for 'Genital Inspections' (of female student athletes)

The GOP-led Florida House of Representatives on Wednesday voted 70-44 along party lines to pass HB 1475, which would ban transgender female athletes from competing on women’s athletic teams in both high school and college while subjecting some students-athletes to “genital inspections” before they can play.

According to the legislation, disputes regarding a student’s sex under the law would be resolved with a “health examination and consent form” verifying the student’s biological sex.

“The health care provider may verify the student’s biological sex as part of a routine sports physical examination by relying only on one or more of the following: 1. The student’s reproductive anatomy; 2. The student’s genetic makeup; or 3. The student’s normal endogenously produced testosterone levels,” the text of the five-page bill reads.

that a biological male has physical advantage? As in a Bruce Jenner would have an unfair advantage even after changing his gender identity? I can understand that concern as my daughters were in many sports competitions and they won a lot of events, they couldn’t have competed physically with bigger male athletes.

Female athletes who "look" masculine suffer enough harassment already. This only adds to it.

Personally I think high school sports culture in the U.S.A. is overwrought. Its only purpose should be to encourage active lifestyles and teamwork.

In the modern workplace there are very few jobs, even in the military, that can't be accomplished with mixed sex teams. We learned that in World War II when women had to take over jobs traditionally held by men. My own grandma was a welder in the shipyards during World War II.

I was one of those kids who hated sports in school. I didn't learn to appreciate sports until I started playing recreational softball in college on mixed sex teams, or long distance running.

I know it's heresy to say this here in the U.S.A., but I don't think anyone should be playing high school football. If parents want to abuse their children that way they can sponsor their own damned leagues and buy their own damned football fields.

My own grown children, and my nephews and nieces, are all very athletic. They participated in highly competitive school sports, and still play as adults. Maybe it's because we didn't make sports a religion.

44. My granddaughter went to college on a sports scholarship

because she threw hammer and discus and javelin and broke state records. However, she never broke any records versus the male throwers because they were all much bigger and stronger. Sports competitions in high school and college often mean the difference in choice of schools and amount of scholarship assistance. I certainly don’t think trans kids should “show their genitals” to anyone, but if a person is biologically a male, this should be noted if they are in sport competitions with biological females. Also, in sports such as wrestling, safety from injury would have to be considered as this could easily become a legal issue for schools.

"Show us your clit." Of course, if the size and shape of a female's clit doesn't match what the inspector's experience is, a little girl could get labeled something she is not. It's completely unfair and arbitrary. And, damaging.
