Fox News Contributor Calls for Dr. Fauci to Be Fired for Being High-Handed in His Exchange With Jim JordanBy Joe DePaoloApr 16th, 2021, 10:26 am
-snip-
Appearing on Fox & Friends Friday, contributor Charles Hurt ripped Fauci for what he deemed to be a high-handed approach to the congressmans questioning.
This is the one opportunity for Jim Jordan, who represents 800,000 Ohioans who paid Dr. Faucis salary, to ask some basic questions about the decisions Dr. Fauci has made that has altered their life probably more than any other single person in American history especially for somebody whos never been elected, Hurt said. He added, And Dr. Fauci gets high-handed with Jim Jordan?! The representative of 800,000 people that Dr. Fauci works for who pay his salary? He accuses Jim Jordan of ranting by asking these questions? This is a really screwed up situation.
Hurt went on to state that he thinks Thursdays hearing provided grounds for Faucis dismissal.
Dr. Fauci should be fired for a lot of reasons, but he should be fired for this, Hurt said. For this kind of disdain not for Jim Jordan but for the 800,000 Ohioans who pay his salary that Jim Jordan represents.

(38,560 posts)but Jim Jordan was being "high-handed" about trying to lecture an medical expert about infectious diseases.
Especially since more than 100 years ago, the Supreme Court ruled that states can enforce mitigation efforts to stem infectious diseases.

(6,180 posts)It just goes to show that 800,000 Ohioans can't be relied on to make a good choice for someone to represent them in the House.
And, of course, Fox always backs the shithead...it's their nature.
That's how many voted for Gym Jordan.

(6,180 posts)That's a pretty high margin of victory. They really like him there.
And, in any event, he represents everyone who lives in the 4th district, whether they voted for him or not.

(8,445 posts)Lauren Boebert is the representative from my district, but she sure as hell doesn't represent ME. Just sayin'.

(6,180 posts)I didn't say they all liked him, but a huge majority do. And so they're all stuck with him...like you are with Boebert.
She represents your district, and has your vote in the House.
It sucks, but there she is.

(8,445 posts)She made it clear that she only represents some in the district, just as trump made it clear that he was only President of repukes.

(11,738 posts)In Jordan's district, it will be Jordan, or any Republican the beats him in the primary. Democrats have almost no chance of winning there. Now, put him an an actual district where the population is spread more evenly and see how he does. That district is rated as R+14 in Cooks Partisan Voter index. Anything above +6 is considered strongly toward one party or the other. The district was ruled unconstitutional and gerrymandered in 2019.

(8,445 posts)A WHOLE lot more support Dr. Fauci than support Gym Jordan.
He received 235,875 votes in his last election, and it's likely that not even all of them want Dr. Fauci fired.

(82,849 posts)Jordan kept demanding "a number" for when this public health crisis would be over. There is no number, but Jordan wouldn't accept that answer, and kept ranting about some number (whether rates of infection, number of vaccinated, status of virus mutations, was never pinpointed by Jordan) when the tyranny of safe, effective, and CHEAP countermeasures would at last be over. Dr. Fauci was extraordinarily patient in trying to explain to Jordan that that's not how a pandemic works, but Jordan kept interrupting and shouting over Fauci until the chairman gaveled Jordan down for using up his time. Even at that, Jordan wouldn't observe the rules and courtesies of the hearing and Rep. Waters finally had to tell him to shut up.
So, that's what Hurt wants to whine about as high-handed. GTFOH

(11,738 posts)#1. Dr. Fauci, while an important adviser to the President, does not make decisions about when and where people open back up, and can go without masks. Dr. Fauci's job is to look at the data through his lens of expertise, and advise the administration. Decisions to actually open up and what public health conditions to set are made on a local and state level with guidance from the Feds. So Jordan's line of questioning was bullshit from the very premise.
Either he understands that science cannot predict a number where "everything will be fine" and was just being an asshole, or he is an ignorant idiot who should not hold any position of public power. Likely a combination of the two.
He kept badgering Fauci about "what's the number when we get our freedoms back?" which is a bullshit question.
People are already going back to school, going back to work, going back to restaurants. The issue is being responsible and being safe. Getting vaccinated, going out with a cautious and protective mindset. Restaurants in my area are open for indoor seating. I have not returned and do not plan to do so until the "All Clear" sign is given. I go to the grocery store, I go to work, I go different places. I have had both doses of the Moderna but I still wear my mask and try my best to maintain 6 feet of distance between myself and anyone who does not live in my immediate household. Why? Because I am cautious and courteous. I don't want to get it, or spread it. I protect others from me, and other protect me from themselves.
Jordan and the other Republicans are like whiny toddlers who are going to die if they don't get the cookie RIGHT NOW!!!

(2,636 posts)Fauci is a convenient target for these idiots. They don't like the message, so they shoot the messenger.
Fauci didn't mandate anything. Fauci didn't send kids home for virtual school, he didn't shut businesses, he didn't mandate masks, he didn't ban church or any of the other bullshit Jordan hyperventilated about.
Fauci correctly called Jordan out. "Are we going to do this forever?" Well, no. And no one suggested that. Ever. If Jordan and his ilk would mask and distance, we'd stop needing masks sooner.
Jordan railed against things that weren't happening. He was outraged about assaults that never happened (never mind actual young Black men have been assaulted and killed in the past week for walking past a white guy's house and air freshener. Those are real assaults. But look over there....) Jordan wanted to blame Fauci and pin him down to a metric (how about less that 1,000 cases a day?) so that he can play gotcha later. He snarked that we had fifteen days to flatten the curve. Well, that was Trump and Pence's post card plan. It was working, and they knew it. They gave it three whole weeks before seizing on the report that COVID killed black and Latinos at disproportionally higher rates.
Then, the GOP saw it as a weapon to spread to Democratic cities. They did nothing, left it up to the Governors, then blamed the governors for the Federal GOvernment's abdication of duty.
Fauci should be fired because he was mean to Jordan. Not because he's incompetent, or because he's spreading disinformation. Oh, no, there's no quibble with Fauci's information. They just don't like it. Jordan sat there all smug and said he didn't believe the science. He's an assistant wrestling coach. His opinion is in no way equivalent to Fauci's education, training and expertise, and everyone knows it.
Notice they call for Fauci's to be fired, but say nothing about Maxine' Waters, "Shut your mouth." Jordan wouldn't dare take on a Black Woman. He knows she'd kick his ass.
crickets
(25,981 posts)to use against Fauci later, and especially pointing out that no one is going after Maxine Waters for schooling Jordan. They know better, so like all bullies who want their own way, they go for the target they perceive to be weaker. It isn't going to work, but these day it's often the only play they've got.
