Fort Jackson soldier suspended from duties after being charged with assault caught on video

COLUBMIA, SC (FOX Carolina)- Fort Jackson says that Jonathan Pentland has been suspended from instructor duties at the facility, according to a post on the fort's official Facebook page.

Pentland, Sgt. 1st class in the Army, is suspended from his duties pending the outcome of an investigation of charges of assault against Pentland.

The charges stem from an incident in which Pentland was caught on camera in a confrontation with another man in a neighborhood where he can be seen putting his hands on the other man during the confrontation.

Fort Jackson Commander Brigadier General Milford Beagle Jr. released a statement on the decision to suspend Pentland from his duties.

"Soldier conduct on and off duty must be exemplary to retain the trust of our communities and our nation...Fort Jackson continues to work with and support Sheriff Lott, our local law enforcement professionals, and community & civil leadership as this case moves forward."

This guy has no business being a DI, makes one wonder how he treats his recruits.

to determine if there is any racism being directed at any of them.

When I went through MCRD, San Diego in 64, our DI's hated everyone, no matter what color of our skin, at least it seemed to us recruits that they hated us, but looking back, I realize that they were getting us ready for military life and Vietnam.

We keep hearing so many disturbing stories about racism and sexism in the military and then to hear that members of the military participated in the January 6th insurrection as well. There needs to be some serious cleansing and restructuring. Maybe time for some early retirements as well.

And thank you for the reassurance that the Army investigators are probably investigating the problem. At least now we have a reasonable, decent Commander in Chief who has no tolerance for racism of any kind.

... seeing he's training a bunch of black people to be soldiers.

I trained in fort Jackson and there would be tons of calls tons of videos tons of other shit about this guy and him bullying a black guy

This DI really screwed up he really put the army in a bad position his life is going to be hard after this

stop their racists assaults is that when found guilty or caught on video, they are fired with no ability to collect their pensions. If they want to throw away years of service for their racist, misogynistic, and religious assaults let them.

That "man" looked like a kid. He may have legally been an adult, but he was much younger and smaller than Pentland. The description made it sound like they were equal in age and stature. I seriously doubt Pentland would have tried to bully someone who was his own size. Bullies tend to be cowards at heart.
