This alderperson sums up my feelings exactly

Neenah WI council member Danae Steele introduced the ordinance for the mask mandate last week after the Wisconsin Supreme Court nullified Gov. Tony Evers' statewide mask mandate and blocked Evers from issuing new ones.

(She requested that the ordinance be withdrawn because the comments from the community were "not pretty.&quot

"It is obvious to me that a fair number of this community actually are taking delight in publicly putting others at risk," Steele said. "That is deeply saddening to me, but it is unfortunately the reality in which we are living."

"I think that some will take this (withdrawal) to be a victory for 'their side,'" Steele continued. "I think there is no victory here. I think we are all losing. I think our community loses. There are lives that are going to be lost unnecessarily, and frankly, I have lost the sense, for what it is worth, that I live in a community where people care about each other and will do what it takes to keep each other safe."

I've been having trouble putting into words what bothers me about people who are refusing to get the vaccine, but Ms Steele perfectly summarized it. Some people have a genuine fear of getting vaccinated, and some are woefully misinformed. But a large number seem to be trying to sabotage the effort to overcome the pandemic.

Never forget that Appleton, up the road from Neenah, was home to Joe McCarthy. John Birchers, RW nut jobs, insulated "don't like outsiders" types.....no one should be surprised at the narrow mindedness and tunnel vision that exists in wide swaths of this country.

Appleton is pretty divided, but it did vote for Biden last year. And nobody likes the fact that the John Birch Society is here. It's considered more of an embarrassment.

And we just elected a democrat as our new mayor.

The caveman coalition is not as strong as they make themselves out to be, that's why the WI state GOP is constantly trying to cheat.

It sounds like even Ron Johnson is finally facing a difficult re-election next year. IF he is re-elected.

should be responsible and/or culpable for loss of life (on Earth) combined with fear...science cannot yet explain everything and/or resolve basic philosophical questions about existence with "right" answers. Whether the "reasonable" mind ever will, I don't know...but their best guesses at how to prevent our collective loss and pain that illness and needless suffering cause on Earth is okay by me until I no longer need to know because it's been revealed in death. One doesn't try to spread that loss and pain nor invite that change! In the meantime, wear a mask, wash your hands, and at least try to be a good steward of our planet!
