(2,403 posts)I know what you are saying but it drives me absolutely nuts when people refer to adults as kids. In this instance ok he is 19. Close. But I stopped raising my children as kids at 14. Sure they arent treated as full fledged adults but we do them no favors by putting off adulthood. I hear people refer to people as old as 30 as just a kid. And it drives me nuts

(68,703 posts)this. We almost lost her. She is a danger only to her self though. Regan destroyed the mental health system...sure it wasn't perfect but it was there. And insurance refusing to cover mental health finished its destruction. I blame easy gun access for mass shootings and know the GOP are always touting 'mental health' which their party destroyed when there is a mass shooting and they don't mean it. They would not vote for mental solutions. However, there is a desperate need for mental health access, treatment and hospitals...they are few and far between.

I watch a lot of 'true crime shows' on TV and those 'spots' on his face 'may be' from using crystal meth, and meth can cause anger, paranoia, and violence.
"Meth, also known as crystal methamphetamine, has the most notorious reputation for causing skin problems because of drug use. Even short-term meth use can have a profound negative impact on your skin, as well as your health. Its easy to spot someone who is struggling with a meth addiction. The meth sores, scabs, and scars on their face ..."

(32,626 posts)his mother called the police? Not a Doctor? The police surely would have gotten him in touch with some mental health facility.
"A shotgun was seized at his residence. Based on items observed in the suspects bedroom at that time, he was interviewed by the FBI in April 2020. No Racially Motivated Violent Extremism (RMVE) ideology was identified during the course of the assessment and no criminal violation was found," the statement said. "The shotgun was not returned to the suspect.

(13,779 posts)Its usually pointless to call a doctor when things are that bad. Especially if he doesnt have insurance coverage.

(1,327 posts)really any good resources out there when someone is experiencing a mental health crisis. We just don't. There aren't enough beds, and there are often wait lists for YEARS to get a spot if you need inpatient care. (Then of course, you either have to be willing to go, or have a doctor be willing to involuntarily commit you.)
So often people experiencing severe mental health crisis fall through the cracks. They have episodes and can become violent with family members who may call the police, or send them to the hospital for a 72 hour hold, but again, after three days, they're sent right back home and the cycle starts over.

He had probably taken shit and been shunned his entire life because he looked a little different.
Lovely society we have, isn't it?
No one's expecting that every single one of us is going to get the "beautiful person" treatment, but it'd be nice if we didn't actively mistreat and exclude those who aren't so lucky. It's really cruel and barbaric.
