(269,157 posts)Tulsa race massacre and OKC bombing products 'of the same kind of hatred': AG Garland
Visiting Oklahoma, Garland expressed concern about ongoing domestic threats.
In his first trip as the nation's top law enforcement official, Attorney General Merrick Garland visited the sites of two of the worst domestic terrorist attacks in U.S. history -- an effort he said was intended to highlight what happens when racial hatred drives individuals to carry out unspeakable acts of violence against their fellow Americans.
In an exclusive interview with ABC News Chief Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas in Tulsa, Oklahoma -- which next month will mark the 100th anniversary the nation's worst race massacre -- Garland sought to tie the attacks by a white mob against the city's Black residents to the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City 26 years ago.

(10,171 posts)I never was taught a word about the Tulsa massacre in school, but I graduated in '66 on the cusp of civil rights, so not real surprising. But the first I EVER heard of it was on the T.V. series, Lovecraft Country.
I thought for a short while it was fantasy and was totally shocked that the Tulsa massacre was true. I guess it's better late than never to learn about something so significant.

(51,623 posts)then my 17 year old "baby"/dog less than a year ago, I have cried so easily. I have always been sensitive and emotional (I am a Cancer/zodiac) but now I cry at the drop of a hat. First time today was Mondale, then came Garland. At this rate I will be dehydrated by the time I go to bed. I'd better not watch any Dodo videos about rescued animals or the flood gates will open up again.

(6,556 posts)I also cry at the drop of a hat these days. My Mom and oldest brother died three years ago. This spring I lost all of my semi-feral cats in less than a month, likely from poison put out for rat/ mouse control. The mom cat has been with me for 7 years, and the rest of them were her kittens over the last 5 years. 12 of them in all. I cry over looking out at my lonely yard, at police brutality, at mass shooting, at man's inhumanity to man, and the list goes on. I avoid my yard and the news most days.

(51,623 posts)my dog ate some of it but I wasn't aware of it until hours later when she got really sick. Fortunately, I took her to the vet ASAP and they kept her overnight. She came out of it OK but the neighbor lied about putting out the poison, even though people saw him do it. When he died in his sleep at the age of 59 I figured that Karma got him.
I can't watch the George Floyd video anymore since it always makes me cry too.
Maybe we are this emotional now since for 4 years we have been through Hell and our minds and bodies are still transitioning back to "normal". I hope it is temporary.

(34,195 posts)I can't stand her.
It's all the eye rolling, head shaking, facial expressions, frowns,, etc
And being told to turn her on RFN,.
Well,
you can imagine what I think about that.

(14,927 posts)that AG Garland was a major part of investigating the OC Atrocity, and now as US Attorney General must deal with the amount of racism that still has not be stamped out, but fanned by the former guy along with his lies and his people to rise to the concentrated level of the seditious January 6 Insurrecrion.
I was not in good shape at that time in '95, but I remember a lot of what happened.
He is a good man, and very suited for this job right now
I think I heard about Greenwood in the late '90's, early '00s and that was a stunning atrocity of it's own. There details RM reported that I'd never heard before, that amplified the horror.
That the two events are so close in the calendar is so sad because we need to do much more.
