(46,077 posts)I do feel relieved. If they'd only convicted him of manslaughter, it would have set a terrible precedent.

(5,943 posts)There has never been a murder case in which justice has been done, because there has never been a murder victim who was brought back.

(115,829 posts)George Floyd is still dead and justice can't bring him back - all it can do is hold someone responsible. I am glad for the guilty verdicts, but it's a tragedy all the way around, even for Chauvin, because somehow something happened to him in his life that took away his humanity. A bad cop is going to prison, which is just and fair and should happen in more cases, but George Floyd can never get real justice because he's going to stay dead. There won't be justice until cops stop killing people. So I'm not dancing for joy either; I'm just relieved that it's over and the result was the right one.

(17,634 posts)..a lot of people will suffer. Bet Chauvin wishes there had been one good cop that day who would have pulled him off George. Now maybe good cops will intervene. My state just made it a crime for a cop to sit by and watch another cop commit a crime.

(18,402 posts)Relieved, thankful that at last justice has been delivered. For me it is not just for George Floyd, but for all those for whom justice was denied: Emmet Till, the four little girls in Birmingham, Travon Marin, Eric Garner ... and hundreds, thousands of others across the years.
I feel hopeful that we have taken the first step in a long time toward breaking a barrier and seeing some hope for change. It wont be complete, and it will take time. But were seeing progress at last. A light in the darkness. 🕯

But it is a beginning.
