(12,667 posts)So, no "drop the knife"? Not even a "what's going on here"? Just drive up on the scene of a couple hysterical girls, and execute the most "threatening" looking to make the point that he's in control?

(9,988 posts)But the problem is the whole rotten system, and EVERY cop who does this needs to face the same accountability that Chauvin did today.

(6,829 posts)Yet there are millions of people, including here on DU, who defend that murder even after seeing it point blank on the body cam.
"Truth" depends largely on one's POV (and skin color)

(18,486 posts)lecturing those of us who are rightfully skeptical of the need to shoot this child 5 times about how we "weren't there and shouldn't jump to conclusions" ... When jumping to the conclusion that the girl was at fault and the cop was justified in shooting her.
That propensity to give cops the benefit of the doubt while insisting they aren't taking sides - defending the cop is the default and they'll only question their behavior if they are conclusively convinced the cop was wrong while they will immediately believe the dead Black victim was at fault from the get to until convinced otherwise - is how they keep getting away with this.

(61,695 posts)that have been through training with forensics similar to FBI, etc. In Texas, that bureau is known as the Texas Rangers. It is pretty difficult to make Ranger, but they have a history of good ol' boy-ism within the ranks, and I don't know whether they've overcome that.
I imagine the standard for truth is pretty strong with a state investigative bureau versus creating a cover up.

(18,486 posts)Only a cop who is completely incompetent would feel he's in danger in this situation because someone has a knife.

Then again, looking at this little pencil-neck, he's probably afraid of toddlers. I've long held a theory that most cops are either the guys who were bullied in school and are now looking for revenge, or they were the bullies. This guy looks like he falls into the first category.
