Joe Walsh: Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannitys Sea of Disinformation and Conspiracy is a Real Problem for This CountryBy Colby HallApr 22nd, 2021, 8:34 am
Joe Walsh is the former Tea Party Republican who served in Congress and conservative talk radio host who is now a vocal critic of the very right-wing media ecosystem and outrage culture that is the foundation of his career. During a Thursday morning appearance on CNNs New Day, Walsh blasted the business of conservative talk radio and specifically called out Fox News prime time hosts Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity for riling up conservatives with anger.
At the end of a segment that started by blasting Carlson, co-host John Berman turned to a recent Walsh tweet in which he praised comments made by former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama following the guilty verdict for Derek Chauvin. Walsh revealed that when he was in Congress and Obama was president, he would have reflexively rallied against him for saying that Black Americans are treated differently before adding that he now understands it. Barack Obama has always gotten it, he said. He hasnt changed. I have.

Walsh explained his evolution explaining how he spent the last four years opening my eyes and listening, primarily talking to Black Americans, Black men, and women, understanding getting to understand their experience.
If you would have told me eight years ago when I was in congress that Black Lives Matter, I probably would have reflexively fired back at you, no, John, all lives matter,' he continued, adding But Ive learned. Ive opened my eyes. I was mistaken. I listened to Black Americans, and I understand why its important to say Black Lives Matter.

(5,534 posts)That sounds like real growth. It is not easy to come from where he was to where he is. It is especially humbling for someone in his position to credit Obama
Hats off to him

(8,929 posts)It's a problem for us, and the country as a whole, that so many are tuning into Fox News and buying into the lies.

(6,011 posts)He was the Congressman from my district at one time. He rode in on the Tea Party barge.
He was defeated after one term by Tammy Duckworth.
He's a rightie, of course, but he's also changed his tune on a lot of things.
Walsh has been slamming the far right since Trump first hit office. I've heard his radio show and,
to be honest, he no longer sounds the the guy he was when he was in Congress.
As another poster said, give credit where credit is due.

(18,641 posts)...but he's stepping up to the plate for our team now and he has a pretty good batting average.
Perhaps he was playing a character when he ran on the Tea Party because that was the ticket to win. I do know that right wing hate talk shows are where the money is now, but he's talking from the other side.

(8,797 posts)Maybe he has gotten a "Rocky Mountain Way", and expanded his mind. Finally, not destroying the rep of the Real JW. Credit to him. A repub openly attacking the "main line" source of all R/W bullshit, takes courage. Good for you Joe. "You Don't Lie." At least not about this

(9,670 posts)The more they infuriate their constituents, the more publicity they receive, more power and more money.
They prey on the bigotry, prejudices and ignorance of their fans, but to them it's all a game and they couldn't give a shit about the USA.

(2,169 posts)Understanding why its important for them NOT to say Black Lives Matter is crucial.
Sounds like he means it. Now he has to leverage that attitude with like-minded republican reps and see what happens. The "talking down from the ledge" has to happen, and soon, and they won't listen to Democrats.

(9,170 posts)the time, or he's a moron, who has lived on this earth for 59 years and has only recently begun to partially pull his head out of his ass.
I'm leaning toward him being a con man and a terrible human being. (see his history of stiffing people - including his own children)

(383 posts)Was it he who yelled you lie to President Obama? Or was that Joe Wilson? I guess it doesnt matter.... birds of a feather or whatever the saying is.

(26,505 posts)watched this guy for years and how much easier and lucrative it is to grift from the right. I do see some sincerity from him lately, I know, I know... I'm usually waaaay more cynical. But he could've easily easily stayed on the fascist train. He even seemed genuinely embarrassed on this interview with Mehdi Hasan I watched on Youtube. Then again I may be a terrible judge of character.
I'll also give him some points. Because in the one or 2 interviews I've seen with him. He doesn't come across like that "talkingcanof Axe Body Spray" Scaramucci. Who's pretty much been going around like "Hey, I did my part. I'm not going to apologize. Just forget about my history.... blah, blah, blah.". Walsh actually seems contrite.

(33,544 posts)...the point of apostasy against an odious worldview, is worthy of some modicum of respect.
The hatred expressed toward our first African American president, and the use of the slavery inspired Electoral College to install the first openly virulent racist since Woodrow Wilson (although many subsequent Presidents would be closet racists) was entirely about racism.
I applaud this guy for more or less acknowledging as much.

(82,849 posts)That's the way it's done: I've changed. I was mistaken. I'm more inclined to listen to him after he says this. A lot of people are going to be less inclined to listen to him. But it's how to retrieve lost credibility.

(6,207 posts)So he has a hobby and ties flies like probably millions of Americans and people around the world do.
BUT five nights a week he spreads disinformation to millions as well.
Joe Walsh is the former Tea Party Republican who is calling him out for his disinformation (lies) nightly campaign.
